I know it says on the weaving website that they are 2500kg but how far back is the weight? would a JD 6430 lift a 3 metre grain only GD??
We were worried our 313 Fendt would be light on the front but carries1t quite well- I would have been ok if we had to use 500kg bags one at a time but needn't have worried...…..not sure were you are but only at Ipswich if you wanted to hook up to it...

I'm up near Southwold so I'm a fair run from you in a tractor (and thanks for the offer), but from what you're saying I think we should be fine. We've taken the plunge anyhow so we should see our new GD around April time. Looking forward to being able to contribute to this thread properly;)

My t6 160 is light on the front, I've a Ritchie front wheel press with 600kg of wafers on it.
But I've also added 500kg of wafers to the drill.
So with a ton of seed I'm it's pretty heavy.
I wouldn't want to do it without the dual wheels.

Haven’t actually had any drills on demo, I applied for the grant in August without realising that if it was approved we would have such a short window to buy a drill and the weather would be so bad for demos?.
Just had to go for it or lose the grant in the end but I was most convinced by the GD that it would do what we wanted.

I’ve got a sumo tyre press (1250kg) to go on the front so we’ll see how it goes, do you need your 500kg extra on the drill all the time?

I've got a 3m mounted gd on mf 7480 I only put half a ton of seed in the back and don't run any weights on it don't need weights on front of tractor either but have changed tyres from 580 to 650s has made a huge difference

On my heavy stuff, yes.
If it's dry enough to drill it needs weight.
If it's marginal and I think I could take the weight off it's too wet .
It's currently parked up, I've been drilling with my kv tineseeder.
Can't see the gd being used now unless it stops raining for a prolonged period.

Should the toolbar only be set level or does slight pitching it down have any affect?
Set it level or you may find you have crabbing issues. Depending on which holes you have used for lower links and toplink will have a greater effect on pitch at different pressures, so just be aware of that if you have big differences across fields/conditions. I set mine up on a bit of concrete with the pressure set to just take a bit of weight off the transport wheels, but not right in the air. Weaving need to put a scale on that switch slider!!

How much, if any, weight would you guys put on your caddy wheels? Trying to sort out crabbing, any other advise gratefully received.
from what I can gather, crabbing seems to be more of an issue when putting too much weight on the press wheels. Also check your toolbar is level when in work. We have had much better establishment rates when reducing the pressure on the press wheels. putting gate lid down too tight seems to do more harm than good.

So on a mounted machine you’d pull the top link in so more pressure on the discs and less on the wheels? I presume you lads are all using trailed machines

The agent here in New Zealand has worked on a fix for this issue with hydraulic experts so that on the new style drills we can adjust the weight on the back wheels but at the same time allow the wheels to be in a float position to contour better. My understanding this has been sent to Weavings to try but not sure if it would work on the older style drills.
We were having the same issues and now the drill is very workable on very undulating or hard ground.

I'm using a caddy with GD toolbar.

I have thought about teeing a pressure transducer into the coulter rams circuit and a solenoid operated double acting valve on the main raise lower circuit, then using a micro controller to adjust the toolbar up/down on the go according to coulter pressure.
