Groundswell and the PFLA are collaborating on a webinar:
Should be interesting
Did you take part? The discussion in messages was interesting. I liked the speakers and the tone of the event was useful. We could have gone on for hours though.

It was getting into some key areas when Charlie Burrell started talking about his income streams and his comment that he no longer invites people to "come and see my farm" but to "come and visit my nature reserve".

I applaud what he's achieved ecologically but producing 27 tonnes of beef a year from 1500 acres is very low output "farming".

I also worked out from Daniel Poole's figures that the "Upstream thinking" project had so far spent £13888/Ha restored. :oops:

I applaud what he's achieved ecologically but producing 27 tonnes of beef a year from 3000 acres is very low output "farming".

There's no money like that available in Wales. Burrell has a great project but it is not at all replicable

Similar to the cost of planting vines, and in both cases you end up with land worth, in financial terms at least, less than that which you started with.

I fear Charlie Burrell was very right on one point, ELMS is going to be a disaster, both financially for farmers and for the farmed environment.

How can regenerating soil help replenish water, boost human health, feed more people and tackle climate change? - Monday 7th December 6:00pm (GMT)
https://campaign-image.com/zohocampaigns/619056000001657004_zc_v13_1605635535290_5x15_webinar_(1).jpg

Hear from visionary speakers from across the world at this special 5x15 online event in collaboration with Groundswell. Climate, water, food and health. The world is facing incredibly complex problems - but what if a simple solution was to be found in the ground beneath our feet? In this event we will discover the importance of the soil to sustaining human and planetary health, and hear from some of the world's leading scientists and practitioners. There are billions of life-forms in every handful of soil, with estimates suggesting that at least a quarter of all species live in - or on it. Without soil there would be no life. Healthy soil traps organic matter while sequestering CO2 - but farming intensively has turned our soil into something thin and insubstantial that no longer supports life without chemical interventions. What can we do to change the story?

Stellar line-up (on the whole), put together with 5x15 who have been putting together some great talks on the web through lockdown. It'll possibly be old news for some on here, but the audience will include a lot of people who don't know much about farming or the soil; the plan is to show how the world could be a better place with regenerative agriculture.

The link isn't working John.......

Awesome. Thanks for that link. Having watched that I have now had a productive afternoon indoors, sitting about.
Best quote from Gabe Brown ( which he acknowledges a Canadian farmer for);

"If you want to make small changes, change how you do things. If you want to make big changes, change how you SEE things".
