More clarity please . On how one 650 vf tyre is better ?, than dual wheels
@mo! has it, Will - a longer reply for you from Stephen below. He is happy to discuss further and I can give you his e-mail address if you would like to talk further:

As stated for stability (Hillsides) & for consolidating (bed forming, etc.), Single VF fitment would not be better.

For purely using the Duals to travel on the top soil lighter – Single VF fitment against Dual fitment (of the same size) can “in some cases” to better – a calculation as said needs to be made,

to determine this.

If we use – in its most “basic form” the simple One Inch Width Strip Test – 650/65 R42 = say 25inches wide, so 25sq inch strip across the tyre width.

Duals Axle – 4 x 25 = 100 sq-inch strip (8,000kg Axle Load) Pressure 8psi = 800lbs across that total strip.

Single VF Axle – 2 x 25 = 50 sq-inch strip (8,000kg Axle Load) Pressure 12psi = 600lbs across that total strip.

This only works when the differential between the 2 sets of tyre pressures are fairly close, once you have a much greater differential (due to different tyre sizes, etc. being used) the Duals may well impart less pressure onto the top soil.

So . Stephen calculate pressure on our set up 800/70/38 svt tyre at 11 , and run a 480/80/46 vf row crop along side it , I think the biggest influence is front tyres they need to be bigger than most folk put on , we put 750,s on front . Have done a lot of work with Phillip Wright on this , and run 18 inch wide small terra on front and 800/45/26 Trelliborg on a small50 hip light tractor for Averdex img , . Rolling tractor has dual led 520/70 /38 11 and 10 psi. Fronts ha And another set of 800 26 on front . At 6 psi Can you suggest a better way

@Will 1594, Stephen has replied...

If you have been working locally with Philip, you should be guided by him, as he is very much THE expert on this subject.

Rolling Tractor – Assume – Fronts – 6psi & 6psi and Rears – 11psi & 10psi are correct for the load/speed.

One simple thing you could you do, to determine a potential - better way - is the One Inch Width Strip Test.

But first - what is the weight over the front and rear axles.

Stephen has said that if you would like to talk further, his e-mail address is: [email protected].

If you put Michelin Xeobib VF 650/60R38 tyre on the rear of your rolling tractor, you could roll at any speed upto 30km/h with only 0.4bar(6psi) inflation pressure.

What's more the tractor would only be 8' 2" wide, and you could drive on the road back to your farm at any speed upto 65km/h without putting more air in the tyres.

Well how about first getting what is stamped yay big on the side of a tyre right. No size you mentioned actually exists.
Just sayin. It's like when somebody gets to the ins and outs of Claas and double taps the s in stead of the a.
Maybe this should be in the what grinds my gears thread.
