same with most data - it’s interesting but getting value from it is another thing ! - helps our records be accurate re assurance recording of application weather I guess

the only tangibles we do get from live stations on different farms is we can often avoid a wasted trip spraying, harvesting or drilling due to wind or rain when we get there. or sometimes the other way around when it’s too windy at home we see it’s calm elsewhere

amazing how over just 30 miles radius of our home farm conditions can vary
very true but then it can of changed by the time you have drive that 30 miles.

A localised shower could stop you drilling or harvesting.... wouldn't an investment in on site tech save you several hours of travelling each year? I'd have a tame local on the end of the phone for a situation report but calibrating a bird bath level might not be very accurate...

I get the tech but RECORDING rainfall only tells you the historic part not the forecast Need weather radar for that and there are plenty to chose from. Its a bit like knowing which way the wind is going, when what you want to know is where it is coming from!

Weather stations have barometers. Falling pressure = rain likely. Ask a local to look out of the window at the sky. I've driven 25 miles in a loaded sprayer only to find to raining when I got there & not where I'd set off from. That makes you think of at least a partial method of information gathering.

How much is a Sencrop weather station with weblink? Davis Vantage Vue is circa £600 with live link for viewing remotely and the Vantage Pro2 around £1300 for the same package.

Had a play with Sencrop today and yes it’s nice to look at but itthe same as a Davis. Our Davis has just stopped working at 10 yrs old. It was this one at £350 https://www.weathershop.co.uk/shop/...x-tkm1u8GWKRT4Ob6a8F7YH7fHjrYivhoCY1UQAvD_BwE

It syncs with a pc etc and yes it’s not as nice as the sencrop but it’s done 10 years service without any issues.

The sencrop (rain only not wind) is £379 to buy it and then £79.99/year so over 10 years total cost nearly £1200. You can’t just buy the gadget as it needs the app which needs the annual license fee.

Both Davis and Sencrop have a 2 year warranty. I’d buy the sencrop at double the price of the Davis as a one off without the annual license as that would be good value but I’m struggling to see why I need to pay an annual license when you don’t need to with the Davis. The sencrop does give you a weather forecast but there’s loads of free apps doing that and they all mostly feed off the same place anyway.

My nearest Davies station about 3 miles away. A great resource, but annoying that there is no point of contact for the website owner! ;-)

Love the Sencrop link though thank you, one just 1km away, pretty sure I know the Owner... Now bookmarked (y)

The weekend thunderstorm was torrential here, and I was sure we had seen more than 3 miles away had recorded. We had, according to the Sencrop site.. 38mm as opposed to 22!!!

looking at my map there your closest “public” Sencrop is Tycross or our hammerwich one, both a bit far away really

if you want good data fir your own location buy one, they are not silly money and very good bits of kit
I agree with Clive. Fantastic bits of kit with great service and backup. The running costs are pretty negligible and you don’t need a SIM card as many others do, as well as no need to be near WiFi or power source. They can be put anywhere and the app is pretty good. The only downside is the app gets a bit addictive, watching lots of local weather stations!!

This is from our Sencrop app showing rainfall for last 14 days in West Midlands. It has been really catchy.

yes the app becomes a bit of a “habit” when it finally started raining tractor drivers and my dad etc were all texting me within minutes ......... they are all addicts !

a few local stations really show up the variation as well as you say, if we still grew potatoes I would put one in every field !

the Davis has to be connected to WiFi yes ? So great for your garden etc but not much more, we don’t have WiFi at remote farms

any other remote stations I’ve come across need SIM cards and cost thousands making the Sencrop a bargain imo

i had a Davis in the past and couldn’t get anything like the 300m from WiFi claimed, by the time you stick a few walks in the way it was so close to the office building it was shadowed re rainfall and wind ! If anyone wants it foc they can come and get it, it’s stuffed in a cupboard somewhere in the office I think

the Sencrop network lets you see the upwind stations, alongside free radar services it’s useful for sprayer operators to see what’s coming

as I said though wasted journeys to farms or block of land where it’s more windy than at home etc os probably the biggest use, I recall in the past driving a combine 30 miles just to find out it had a storm we hadn’t at home !

not sure if it’s still running but Sencrop did have a TFF members offer a while ago plus a free 3 month trial ?

I had a play with the Sencrop app last night and there’s actual someone (I’m pretty sure I know who going off location) with two open access stations just down the road (Cash back ?) seems all the others in the area are restricted access?‍♂️. They may come in handy though as I’ve got some land just across the road from them ?

I don't doubt that you can view all this Clive, but we all know what the weather is like in the UK its a guess.

By the time you have driven the 30 miles with the sprayer/combine and the hour that takes, what the weather station said an hour ago could have changed. But it does make the odds more in your favour.

A light shower can quickly change to a thunderstorm . That storm could have just skirted around the block you were looking at. We have all seen the lines on the road where the rain stopped and started.

Its a guide not gospel

it’s gospel re what has happened but no it can’t predict the weather ....... not even the met office seem able to do that bit !

Anglia Farmers are running a deal with Sencrop for their own network. I was quite surprised to see your smiling face giving a testimonial on the AF website...!
