Thank you. That's a very good match to what I've seen, complete with the reddening of the leaf tips.
Let us know for deffo when it flowers! In your OP. I saw the picture and thought 'phacelia' but was puzzled that you said it wasn't. your does look rather prostrate though as if it has been deformed for some reason.

Can any one Id this one? Seems to be spreading out from the edge of the field, getting worse every year

Mare's tail. MCPA is supposed to give it a hard time. I agree about rolling first. Add some oil to the spray mix to help get the herbicide in thorugh the waxy cuticle though this makes it hot on the surrounding plants.

It's a weed of badly drained land where there has been no crop/sward competition. Check pH and nutrients if it is on dry land.

Yes, it is certainly phacelia - lots flowering now. I don't think much of the seed plant hygiene @Great In Grass ! Lots of species not on the list you gave me like quinoa. Still, I can think of worse admixture and it certainly has some colour in it now!

Yea talking to the merchant there, said mcpa and roll it, not sure how I'm meant to roll a near vertical dyke tho [emoji848] So il prob just give it a good dose of spray! Seems to be along a dyke and all over a clay bank silo

Horsetail roots go down 7ft. It takes a couple of years of spraying it regularly to get it to give up. Very useful for cleaning buckets though - grab a handful and polish round, it even has the ability to clean off calf poo!

Def horse/mare tail, very hard to kill once it gets going, not used kurtail but rolling a couple of times before hand is meant to help, some Su's seem to give it a bit of a kicking in cereals too

Horse Tail and Mares Tail, although superficially similar are two very different species.

If this is deep rooting from rhizomes it's almost certainly Horse Tail (Equisetum spp). Mares Tail (Hippuris spp) favours wet areas, streams and shallow ponds.

Horse Tail is quite an amazing plant. Been around for about 360 million years.

Sorry to hijack someone else's thread, but I assume it's okay as the original question has been answered... Does anyone know what this is (the tall thing with the redish stem and cluster of white flowers):
