We used to get this when we had sewage sludge.
I have a feeling it is poisonous and has flowers a bit like Chinese lanterns, but it isn't that plant.

No idea, don't have/do vegetables , would the cows not have ate it if marrow?

No idea how they get out from gardens, but I have a several over the years appear at random in the fields. They are tropical so no idea how they manage to seed themselves here.

Yes, Datura, commonly known as Thorn Apple. Got one 4ft tall here this year, they have enjoyed our hot summer!

Yep. Thorn Apple. Stinks. Do not touch it without a glove. The seeds are hallucinogenic and I think it is an illegal drug in the US.
We have it in a block of ground, germinates and grows rapidly in the summer. First turned up about 7 years ago here and had differing numbers in the following years - a lot about this year. Apparently can lie dormant for a very very long time.

First came across it in a maize crop that we cut early as was running short. Cows went off feed and milk plummeted and were generally off. Tracked it back to thorn Apple seeds in the - now clamped - maize. Had to remove and dump the 25 acres from those fields before we cut the remaining maize fields. Sheeted it down in a field corner where it has gradually rotted away.
Easy to control but DON'T get it in your feed.

I'm both flattered and too late.

I did know what it was, have even got one growing here (or was until I sprayed it). I'm convinced the ones on my place have come in bird feed.

Yes, it's in bird seed, if it's thorn apple.

All sorts of stuff in bird seed, not just wheat.
