Weigh scales on a telehandler + feeder bucket

Hi , we are looking at changing to a telehandler at home a Merlo to be precise , and the plan is to fit RDS sytem to it for weighing grain in a feeder bucket. I know Merlo do there own version but its ££££ Does anyone have any experiences pros/cons , im not looking for high accuracy but at the same time if its going to be Kgs out thats no use either

I have a rds weigh log on one of the manitous the plan was we would weigh straights in the bucket before putting in the keenan and therefore save return journeys. The problem was we could never get it consistent with the keenan scales. When that manitou was demoted to number 2 machine the new one didn't have a weigher.

It was a pain to get fitted we ended up with a strain sensor on the boom and a pressure sensor in the hydraulics. Apparently it's better with the bigger booms. Rds service was good and I would make sure they fit any weigher but in the end it was not what we wanted.

yea it isnt an easy one @Boysground we cant work a wagon in half of our sheds and feed out over 1500 wrapped bales, so we know where we are with that its finding a way to get away from bags of feed and make the job easy or easier for the old man. when you say it wasnt what you wanted was that because it wasn't accurate enough

It was more the inconsistency between the 2 machines the weigh log was either more or less than the keenan never the same how ever it was calibrated. I suspect that we may have been expecting too much accuracy. I do know someone who uses one all the time as he sold his feeder and gets on really well with it.

We have sold a few with the Merlo system on and they have been fairly good just a couple of sensors failed.
We have just delivered a Merlo 32-6 and the customer had an rds system fitted with the strain gauge and not a pressure sensor in the hydraulics he thinks it's very good

The one we are planing is 3year old doesn't have it on, is the merlo one any good?
Yes ive tried it numerous times on known weights and its spot on, it can be set to automatic or manual and counts up 28 weights, after 28 you have to zero and start again, I presume its mainly for loading trucks with grain ie 28tons, although its a 4 ton fork lift.

Somewhere I used to work many years ago had a rds on a matbro. Had a mixer wagon with no scales. Going from memory to be accurate the bucket had to be crowded the same amount every time

Got the Merlo system on our 14 plate and frankly it's PISH. Great forklift it's our 3rd but compared to the RDS system which was on our last 3 forklifts a frustrating waste of money.

Now maybe I am missing something but you have to go into a different window to see how much it has weighed out. When change the bucket to say weigh some grain or silage you have to tare the new bucket and then go and re-tare the feed out bucket a pain in the arse. Plus the fact it isn't as accurate as RDS one. i.e. loading a lorry with the 3cu/m bucket it's 15% out and loading a lorry with the 2cu/m bucket its 8-9% out. They are weighing light which perhaps means it doesn't overload so easy... As I say maybe I have missed something but I can't see how to adjust the setting.

The old RDS one program the 5 different buckets on a weigh bridge and would be spot on for 5000hrs so long as those who should no better leave the settings alone. We used to check weigh the bucket once a year.

Cheers BB

You could be right I hardly use mine as it just came with it, but when I have used it its been spot on.
