weighbridge build

Reckon you've done ok at that money, especially as you have moved it yourself.
How much can it weigh?
I’ll have to check but I think it’s 25-30t per axle, it’s designed to weigh the vehicle then the trailer so the tractor would be classed as one axle and the trailer as the second and so on. So in theory as long as no “axle” exceeds 25-30t it can just keep adding the weights.

Speaking to the manufacturer this afternoon they said it will be as accurate as a full length weighbridge it’s just you have to weigh twice for every load so not as popular. It will be more than good enough for what I want to do though.

We’ve got a steel and concrete deck like that in our yard, bought it years ago locally before we bought a full size one when we built the new farmyard, if anyone is interested we are open to offers? Got no weighing gear but the deck is sound.

If you were to put a weighbridge on a piece of land in an industrial estate and limit it to straw lorrys would you have to pay business rates, no buildings on site but £400k land cost.

I think you pay it on any commmercial (non agricultural) space, so it could be on a car park/yard area as well as a building but just at a different rateable value dependent on use.

That's cheap!
I have exactly that here, used more or less daily. Westco Bilanciai do the servicing etc so all the bits are available. The terminal's software can be configured to do what you want, but assuming it's standard it's quite good. It'll work a traffic light system, remember tares, do "first and second" weights, put the totals into categories etc.
Essential to seriously rat proof the cables from the load cells, they find them very tasty, and at about £250 per load cell I'd hope so.
Make sure you install flat and level in a flat and level area, put drainage in underneath, don't shorten the load cell cables, do put one of those lightning protection devices into it's power supply.

Things i learnt mistakes I’ve made.
protection device on Eletric’s is a must.
don’t cut cables at weigh cell end but can be joined with resin joiners.
Long slopping ramps longer than you think.
Ducting.

Lightning / surge protection / isolation is definitely a good call.

Even if the unit isn’t directly struck by lightning, it just takes a nearby strike - because this is a very large slab of steel in the ground, there’s a chance of potential differences causing electrical surges and issues.

Mine control box fudged up because the eletric flickered on off loads of times. Had it happen twice before the protection box thing was sorted out been fine last 3 years.

So, to resurrect an old thread! I’ve finally got round to making a start on putting the weighbridge in.
Managed to get the footings dug today, and hopefully going to get some concrete in tomorrow (weather permitting). Still got some shuttering to do and some reinforcement mesh to put in, don’t think its been a bad first day though.

Only had one mishap which managed to blow the main fuses to the yard:banghead: wouldn’t mind but I knew it was there and was looking for it! Just clipped it with the toothed bucket:facepalm:

Got some steel work to do next as I’m sitting it on rsj’s to give some clearance underneath, as the setup where I removed it from apparently had a tendency to build up with dirt underneath. Also the outer framework to make. Hoping to have it in before we start cutting next week:eek:, I love a challenge:ROFLMAO:

Today’s progress- despite persistent rain I managed to get the foundations ready concrete stuck some reinforcement mesh in and finish the drain off. I was hoping to get the concrete pored today but the my concrete guy couldn’t get here and the weather wasn’t really ideal! So it’s first job tomorrow.

Had a couple of hours on the framework that the bridge will sit on also. Hopefully get it finished off tomorrow as well.

Did some fag packet maths the other day and I reckoned it would be about 6m3, surprisingly it we used exactly 6m3:D

Finished the base section for the bridge to sit on.

And had a test fit

Just the got the surround to fabricate around the bridge and want to check the wiring to the weight cells as had to remove one when we took it out.
Altogether not bad progress today though:D
