Simple things really. But never had one and lifting some heavy bales today thought I probably should. 5410 Massey with 1 tonne loader. So what sort of weight would be enough? 400 KG? 700? 1000? How heavy is too heavy. To be fair 99% of the time it is only moving big bale silage, hay and straw and maybe a half dozen bags of fertiliser (EDIT not at the same time obviously :) )

Ton on loader needs ton on the links. Not wheel weights.
Two tons on loader needs two tons on links. Don't worry about overloading the back axle, it can take it. The front axle is the one prone to wear and overloading.
I'd make a ton and a quarter or ton and a half weight block out of an A frame and a load of scrap welded to it and enclosed in a wooden box into which you fill and vibrate some high quality concrete. I made mine in the 1980's and intended it to be a ton. My guesswork was a bit out and it is nearer 2 tons but is in as good a condition today as on the day it was made.
