Weight Loss over Lambing

Dad always used to reckon he'd lose a stone in weight during lambing and I'm sure he did, lambing everything outside, going round either on the B275 and link box or walking. These days, with a proportion of the flock lambing inside and use of a quad, I tend to only lose about half a stone. Anyway got on the scales today and there's been a weight loss of a stone and two pounds over the last couple of months! An interesting indicator of how tough a season it's been. Has anyone else noticed a similar phenomenon this year?

I usually loss a bit of weight through lambing, too. At my heaviest im only ever around 11 3/4 stone as it is but i lost a hell of a lot last year and struggled to get it back on...
Went into this lambing leaner than usual but with much better fitness and for the first time I don't think I've lost any weight.

Just as well, I'm climbing Nevis in 3 weeks! Then it'll be all go shearing

I've lost a stone and a half from January to before lambing on the 5/2 diet but couldn't face that over lambing. No booze instead but had put on a pound in the first week and had to cut back on the biscuits! Not making any claims for how good the ewes have been, I am just a tremendously good doer!
I thought diets were for girls? What’s the 5/2 diet?

I weighed some lambs through the Combi clamp yesterday and notice my tare on the weigh head was a touch lower, but only about a kilo and a half less than normal. Like @Woolless, I'm a 'good doer' and I've been on ad lib Jaffa Cakes and chocolate digestives:hungry:

I lost 2 stone a couple of years ago when lambing outside and the weather was bad... I haven’t got loads to lose
You two sound like you need a damn good worming - have either of you thought of trying the new purple ones:scratchhead:

Yes, 'struggling to put weight back on' is not a problem I've ever had! Maybe they're short of cobalt?

Apparently grandad used to tell dad that if you didn't lose a stone over lambing you hadn't worked hard enough..... We've got at least double the sheep now and lamb two seperate flocks at different times (feb & April).....so he'd be gunning for 2 stone I guess! !
There has been a year or two in my early days I reckon I lost 2 stone but I was much younger and defo worked harder not smarter. Then sheared the flock not particularly efficiently so lost even more weight.

like too think I work abit smarter now, still walk a hell of a lot round fields at lambing though so probs still loses a stone over the two flocks (despite the epic amount of cake and sweets I eat!). Don't shear any more though.

Set of mud terrains on the Landy has probably cut the walking back abit.

Lose about half a stone every year, can’t afford to lose any more, I’m a bit of a racing snake as it is.
