Been looking for a decent 2nd hand baler at reasonable price to do our own hay and haylage plus small amount of straw. Been offered the above Welger done 25K bales farmer owned. Seems a sound machine.
Is there anything to look out for on these models. Any comments or recommendations?
Many Thanks

We have 2 of them. if the net does not cut properly, the blade could have wriggled out a few mm on one side. caused me a lot of hassle until found. little drive sprocket on the double sprocket wore out and slipped, hard to see what the banging was as can't really see in easy. Good balers overall.

I have a RP220
Bought mine 3 years ago and its a cracking baler to use, though mine hasnt been as good as I'd hoped for.

Things to watch out for are

Worn chains, depends what its been doing really.
As said double sprocket can be bother on drive side, a good machine shop can sort it a lot cheaper than Welger parts though.

Usual roller bearings, pinch bar in to see if there is any play, rumbling, bearings arent too hard to change though.

Mine has remote greasing banks, watch for burst or disconnected tubes meaning dry bearings

Pickup tines, they are soft shite.

Pickup cam bearings, common problem worth doing anyway at that age.

Wide angle PTO joint, they can wear seem fine running empty but you get a shudder when the load is on, £££ to change.
Slip/chatter clutch at top end of the PTO shaft can wear if its been pushed too far with plenty of ponies on the front.

Check the net knife, difficult to check but if its not cutting the net clean. They can be turned, and actually not that expensive to replace

Foam roller, check for tears etc, needs to be good order to spread the net properly.

Net brake needs setting right to make them net wrap tidy. Not hard if you know how.

Chsck the control box in the cab, are there lines in the display? Does the beeper work? and get it on a tractor and see that all the relays/solenoids function to work the pickup up and down, knives up and down, and drop floor up and down.

Not uncommon for the black box computer on the right side of the baler to go wrong, damp ingress knackers them. Give it a good close look and dont wash near it. David King electronics is your best bet if that happens.

Worth getting the density checked out, specialist job though.

Thats the main bits that give bother really.
