Welding a hydraulic ram

Welded rams will crack again seen it many times. You can't weld with out stripping down and vee ing out before heating to burn oil out. I do weld rams but only to keep machines going and only tilt and crowd and Tele rams never lift. Tend to fit new rams now and keep genuine in stock. Our local repair company is normally about the same as genuine .

I have never welded a ram but in 2002 I made new pipes that were fixed along side of boom for auxillary on our first Matbro.. I used 3/4 seamless tube and the local plumber curved them to 90 degress and I welded fittings on ends and there were no problems at all
on a slightly different note 40 years ago when I worked at main IH dealer a IH B414 tractor with a B901 loader with a workshop made hook on front was used for lifting purposes but it would struggle to lift something heavy so the location where the rams fitted the frame was moved forward allowing heavier weights to be lifted, just as well there was no health and safety inspectors about then!!
