Welding fumes extractor

See we are all going to have to have an extraction system for when we are welding
what are the options?
Air fed mask?
Extractor unit?

I think an air fed mask might be the way to go but even they are £££

I do not think an air fed mask qualifies as it leaves the fumes in the air so anybody entering would be vunerable, With mig its possibly easiest to have extraction unit on the mig torch, but all are not cheap

I just had a very quick skim through the guide to local exhaust ventilation, are Air Cleaners needed for systems that exhaust welding fumes to outside the building?

I was thinking of standing the dust extractor near the welder, with a pipe going outside, then the suction pipe near to where I am welding

Stick welding no worrires, with MIG it can be very frustrating unless it is very calm.

On a DIY setup, I would probably add some sort of throttle to make sure the suck is enough to take the fumes without upsetting the gas shield.

Appropriate RPE should be provided for welding outdoors. You should ensure welders are suitably instructed and trained in the use of these controls.

Regardless of duration, HSE will no longer accept any welding undertaken without any suitable exposure control measures in place, as there is no known level of safe exposure.

the cynical side of me asks, Why now?.
its not today or yesterday that we put a man on the moon, shurley they knew before now that welding fumes were a problem so whats the big panic in the ruling at this stage, i know its the right thing to be doing if its such a carcinogenic operation but i really have to wonder whos ass are they covering...
dont tell me its only dawning on them at this stage to make it law, what about all the welding thats been done since welders were invented and the people that did it.
its law now and everyone will have to comply but its a massive swoop across the board, its not often they hit something that hard.

So what are people with on farm welders doing about this? Seems an air fed mask the only option if you may be welding outside.

It’ll be another reason to export more production to other countries where labour and lives are cheap.

Bought an air fed mask, TBH been thinking about it for a while so this was the push I needed, if you think welding is bad try plasma cutting.
