Welger problem

Trying to bale winter barley straw today. The baler almost immediately jams the rotor, packing straw up between the flights hanging down at the back. Hardly any straw makes it into the chamber.

never had this problem before

Baler worked perfectly after I took that bar out. Will I ever need to put it back in? Got silage to bale next.
That bar is a mystery, used to come bolted to the drawbar, only put in for dry crops
Then on the later ones they were installed from new, can’t remember ever taking one out.
Now the Kuhn I have it’s bolted to the side of the baler, haven’t needed it yet.

Baler is back jamming again. It tries to pull the straw back through between the plastic strip above the flights and the first roller. Then the roller starts jumping the chain

Straw is a bit soft but rain is forecast. Which is probably the problem.

Put the bar back in yesterday. Made 150 of barley straw faultlessly.
Did notice that some of the flights at the back of the rotor have splayed out now. Wil have to take it out and try to straighten them.

Looks like it's not tuning the straw at the start, but slipping on the rollers. it happens now and again with different straw types, especially when it's hot and dry. Not easily resolved, they did a mixture of sand a resin to brush onto the rollers to gain more grip, but it was a compromise that was not a great success.
I think the reason it works OK sometimes is the straw will be a little damper.

That’s what they did on early RP12s,not heard of that happening on a later one with ribbed rollers.
