I have owned all three, bale chamber is the same on all of em,biggest difference is the side augers and rotor design which was very poor on the 200,the 220/235 is much better, bigger auger flights and rotor drive.Gearbox drives to both sides on the 220/235(rollers one side, pick up reel and feed rotor the other) Im sure there are plenty of detail differences too,but those are the main ones,i would stay away from a 200 nowadays.

We have a wide pick up 200 and I wouldn't recommend one! We have a 320 and its a much better machine, it s a beast of a baler! Pick up is much better at handling the crop and it has the drop floor.

Having just bought an rp200 this year I have to say the pick up design is pretty rubbish. They have these stupid split plastic bushes to support the tine bars, straight tines (unlike the rp12 before and rp220 after which use bent, hooked ones to pull the grass in better) and little augers that don't auger wet grass in very well and block. When we first got it there was 5 or 6 inches of play in the end of the tines and it really struggled to lift the grass in at all but now it has been heavily modified and it has a very good appetite. The rest of the baler is very simple and basic. No solenoids, just 3 pipes to plug in for rear door, pick up and chopping knives and basic huge control box where you only use 1 button to start the net off.

Also having looked round a few rp220's for sale they have an extra roller in, greasable bearings for the rollers with big banks of grease nipples, a lot more electrics and fancy control box, well I think they're completely different balers tbh. I guess you get what you pay for.

I agree, the RP200 wasn't Welgers finest hour, but they did at least learn from their mistakes, augers don't block at all on the 220/235,and they put the extra roller in to help when baling straw. The split drive gearbox and better rotor drive system are also big improvement. You can put on whatever pickup tines you want,i use the Welger HD ones now which don't break,or you can use McHale ones, the standard ones are rubbish .

I've got a RP 200 , use it in silage, hay and straw.
It has been known to stop rolling a bale in slippery barley but only occasionally.
I'm just needing more output per hour. Maybe a move up to a 220,235 or even a new 205? Any idea of the cost?

I was just thinking today about baling silage with ours because it doesn't look like a hay year. It doesn't have knives.

Will it work??

Ours bales straw fine, apart from sticking in the pickup. It jams against the curved cover over the pickup, the pickup is still running tho. I have screwed the drawbar all the way down to raise the baler because I think the pickup needs more clearance.

Of course. Just take the curved guide bit off. It jams the reel up in anything other than very light swaths. Much better without it on.

Ok I've learnt a bit about Welgers this week
RP220 master has knives
RP235 has tin panels and a cam pickup, comes in standard, xtracut (17 knives), Profi(24 knives)

RP245 has fibreglass panels and camless pickup, standard has 13 knives, xtracut 17 and profi 24.
Also can come with e link to control many functions from the seat.

Early 245s were cammed pickup,changed in 2011 I think.

As with all machines it gets complicated!

Options can make a low end spec machine worth more than a higher end with no options.

I've made my decsion. Hope I've bought the best machine for the money.
