Welger vs McHale

Mostly temperamental net wrapping system. Seldom see one working without the top hood up in the air as operators are in and out of cab so regular dealing with them.
Would also start having bearing/roller/pickup reel failures long before year 9.

New ones may be better now but got fed up waiting on the improvements.
Baler design seemed to get forgotten about compared to attention they gave combines and foragers.
I go with the top open all the time so i can See everything is working ok.
Netwrap system is ok once you know the pitfalls!!

Anyone baling a lot of silage with a JD curtain baler? Parts back up being my main attraction as JD manage parts next day. Pretty sick of welgers here, from the 420-435-445-160 they have all been expensive to run and a breakdown seems to mean 4 days waiting on parts to come from Europe. Have stuck with them as they make a solid bale and have a hell of an appetite for grass and big bouts of straw but the reliability just isn’t there. We should maybe just go mchale as so many others locally have.

Keep clear of Vario fusion , I had problems with mine , nearly changed to single belt one so glad I didn’t now ! Good wrapper on them
I’m sure Mchale will sort them as they seem to be loosing few sales to other manufacturers now
What issues did you have? I thought they has sorted the belt twist problem when crossing swaths.

Maybe they have now ! I wasn’t going to risk another
Netting system playing up , uneven swaths raked up by farmers with single rotor rake causing belts to twist and light crops , have to go faster but not easy on some rough hilly land , belt split with me at 20,000 bales so got rid

Krone variable chamber v150 puts more in a bale than every model of McHale fixed chamber. That's actual experience from baling alongside them in the same fields.

McHale better at swallowing big wet lumps (or the drivers are better at it than myself!), McHale slightly quicker at netting and ejecting the bale.

Nobody has a welgar anywhere near here any more, all McHale, Krone, or Kuhn, and one Case belt, and one fixed NH.

Kuhn pickup reel is praised very highly, and will presumably be appearing on McHale in the near future ??

Contractor here had one on demo. Solid bales no known issues apart from feed rotor wrapping an od time. Wouldn’t be a jd if that didn’t happen

The welger will do best bales. Dont understand how mchale have managed to get ppl to think unless u buy a mchale baler ur an idiot. Theyv plenty o flaws just like most machines
They just go on and on. And if there's a problem, it's never a guess game. Every problem is sorted by phoning to our service man, he knows the cause instantly and has the ability to clearly tell you how to fix it. Welger service isn't that great. We've had both and would pick McHale without a second thought.

Had a contractor bale some straw with a McHale.
Complete was of time. Broken bales, misshapen bales.

A McHale maybe good in silage but I can't afford to have a baler for each different crop.

Our Welgar makes good solid bales that wrap well and feed out well.

Must have been a very poor contractor. Baled thousands of wheat/barley every year and never had issues with our 640/660. Blaming operator performance on baler brands now ?

The tightness needs to be dialed down when baling straw with McHale. I baled one bale with maximum tightness and it "exploded" in front of me.

Contractor bales 10s of thousands of grass bales a year.
I was saying what happened as I found it. How am I supposed to know if it's the machine or the operator? Do tell me.

Considering how many thousands of mcchale balers are baling straw every year should be first indication that it perhaps wasn't the machinery at fault..

We bale straw/silage on same setting, density 10. If it's an exceptionally hot period, and the crop is very dry we sometimes have to bale early morning/late evening to get it packed in tight, and stick an extra turn of net on. Short stubby barley is worst.. but I don't think that's McHale specific

Parts should be next day Andrew if ordered before 5pm that day, what part is it?

is Mchale like Apple and Fendt then? Never goes wrong or is an inferior product?

Which makes the tightest bale?

Yes SId, u, on mature recollection have figured it out re Apple, Fendt, McHale. Now when u gonna fire the operator and have happy days baleing. Not trying to antagonise you but U blamed the Baler but then u admit “how would you know if it was the machine or the operator“?? Davydiesel I do believe your a verifiable idiot if you live in Ireland and buy anything other than a McHale machine for the simple reason that you can drive to the factory and get a component in a few hours and that is one hell of a reason to buy McHale. With the currrnt pandemic that is even more important.

It was actually the “CROP” as straw thrashed to dust by a rotary combine on a scorching hot afternoon ain’t for a round baler and SHOULD have actually been square baled. Trouble here is half a story is still only HALF the STORY ?
