Saw this today in the Guardian, and thought it was probably not going to be seen by many members of the Farming community...

Posted last week, but still valid as far as I can see.

We've been able to relax over the last few months, and speak English freely. Come the 18th July, when lockdown ends, we'll all have to speak Welsh in front of tourists again. :( :ROFLMAO:

Ahhh yes.... I remember that one well!

I walked into the Miners Arms in Pontrhydygroes around 1980/81 with my gf at the time. Place went quiet, I ordered 2 drinks and the Welsh started. I gave the lass my best "thank you, dioch yn fawr" *, and we went and sat down and my bilingual gf started speaking German with me (I had about half a dozen expressions!) and the pub started talking again, in English...

Very, very funny at the time!

*The thing was, I had gone to primary school in the Village 10 years before, so had learnt a wee bit of the local lingo as it was a compulsory subject! Sadly, like all my attempts to learn a 2nd (or 3rd and 4th) language, it is long gone and forgotten, although I did have cause to say a metaphorical Merci, to my long dead French teacher, as I started to wander the Continent a bit.
