anybody had any experiance of getting one? what do we need to do to keep em happy !!!!!!

What do you need to do? You need to pay into the fund that keeps the gravy train running.

You need a separate building/block of land that is completely isolated from other stock. You have to have provision in place to keep bedding etc completely isolated and to cleanse/disinfect everything as it comes out of the QU. And a sign to say that it is a quarantine unit and in use.

I have one to aid with ram movements, etc. It’s a separate shed in the yard, which I can reach over the gate to litter/put a bale in. I have a footdip at the entrance and a number of hurdles in the yard outside to keep other stock excluded (if they happen to be in the yard). The hand washing facilities in the shed 20m across the yard are not sufficient though, so n ended to get a squirty bottle of anti-bac hand cleanser to use in the doorway. QU sign is a bit of laminated A4 that I put up. When it’s in use. Movements in/out have to be notified within 24hours, which means you have to do it online (if you’re not already).
Bit of a palarther but not difficult really. Inspection is by FA inspector and billed through them. Cost is £170/yr:mad: iirc, with inspection every 18 months (+ spot checks).

It’s an elite club, so you’re almost guaranteed a spot check (so I was told, but hasn’t happened yet). I was told that there were 23 across all of Wales by last Autumn.

Tbh, most of it is common sense if you want to isolate stock........with a bit of gold plating for good measure of course. It’s not too onerous to comply with but the cost makes it questionable unless you are going to use it regularly imo.

I'm number 95 !! Where did you get you hand sanitiser as I need 'agricultural sanitiser'!!!!

I just had a look on eBay and bought a pump bottle of something suitable for a few quid. I had to have one in the shed doorway, as the hot water tap/sink 15 yards away across a concrete yard was unacceptable.

I’ve never heard of a specific ‘agricultural’ hand sanitiser.:scratchhead: I just looked for something I could squib on in the doorway, and that would kill 99.9% (or whatever) of all bugs. Box got ticked anyway, so must have been OK.

If you have a footdip with Virkon in it, could you just splash your hands around in that I wonder....
