Westfield kit car rebuild

Oh that’s sore did you fix it or sell it,

there is no chance I would give up the Honda S2000 engine it’s a Japanese work of art 230 hp from a 2.0 na engine with 9000rpm red line , and vtech smile’s,
Sorry she’s mine ha ha

I'm guessing with the Emerald ignition that it's not running a standard map, and that the VTEC activation point has been lowered. Theres loads of mid range to be found by overlapping the rolling road maps from separate 'VTEC disabled' and 'VTEC only' runs. Set VTEC to where the graphs meet and hold on tight ;)

It’s was mapped by emerald themselves and vtech is set to pop at 4600rpm, giving a nice strong pull all the way to 8500 with the other 500rpm to 9000rpm just for noise and pleasure ha ha
Similar to my B16b / 1600 type R engine. The power still hadn't peaked at 9200 rpm when the 'dyno guy' bottled it (now set to 8900 to be on the safe side). The guys from the workshop thought we were dyno'ing a motorbike. But typical 1600 vtec, all power and bugger all torque unless it's wound up.

Don't need shed loads of torque in a light car. Torque is also a bit of an enemy because you then need more wheels/drivetrain to transmit it. In light vehicles you should get away with the minimum.

I have often wondered if a little Mazda rotary wouldn't be the kiddie for small cars like these- they are so small and light and wind up to ridiculous speeds would be a right laugh.

Absolutely loving this thread though, I could sit and build cars like this all day every day.

When I raced the Westfield there was a guy with a Mazda Rotary and nothing could touch it, the noise regulations were it's biggest problem.

No substitute for cubic inches.

Noise is his issue also and heat , He fill's the big black part of the exhaust with lava rock as the flames and heat are roasting the E glass matting in the back can. and it sounds mega

IMG_4537.jpg

very nimble set up with the engine being so compact and low center of gravity.

There’s a guy races at Knockhill with a Marcos Mantis / LM with a crate Mustang V8 ‘Coyote’ 5L, that sounds simply awesome!
That's Colin Simpson a sound guy but a hard racer I used to race with him at Knockhill and croft with my old car I could take him at knockhill nice and twisty , but at croft he had the space to open her up and it could shift.

Here is a few of my old race car it was a Vauxhall redtop 2.0 225bhp and yellow when I bought it but after a year it got the works, Painted dodge viper gts pearl blue, The engine went to a Man in Ireland and got the lot from with parts from sbd . it already had a Arrow steel crank then got longer H section con rod's and slipper pistons a new big valve head solid lifters wild cams and the old Jenvy 45 ITB's went back on and got mapped in the car buy Steve himself from sbd , 285bhp @8800rpm and 200lbs torque was the result, mega for 2.0 Na I matted that to a six speed sequential Quaife gearbox with a flatshift paddle system she tipped the scales at 505 KG wet and was a joy to have built. owned and raced. Sadly I sold it and the boy who bought it wiped it out 2nd race out and broke it up and sold the part's.

This was the build bug 20 years ago my sapphire cossie 4x4 tin worm set in and a new shell was got 5 miles from home to create a scs built engine with 400 bhp 410lbs tq straight cut 5 speed box , it was my trackday toy for a few years then got stripped and kitted to a escort cossie and the racing started power started to be chased and I was at 610bhp and smashing diffs and transmissions the car went on fire when I was out qualifying one day (injector o ring fail) but with only melted wire damage the car was sold in part's to get the most money back and the westfield journey started, I should have kept the escort it would be worth 80k + today

Nice build!
I'm no expert but could that chassis not be repaired?
It seems to be made of box section so the front part could easily enough be replaced/repaired? Or was she bent further back?

Good work on the wiring, that's a big job building a loom!
Keep the pics coming, nice to see something a bit different on here.

Ashamed to say this is how my never finished Westfield now looks. I IVA'ed and registered it in 2008 and its probably only done 200 miles since. I had great intentions, but other things got in the way....
@FIL46 what gearbox and diff are you running in that?

You need to pull it out and get it running.
What spec was that ? IRS ? Engine ?
Mine was 1700 crossflow,Mk9 gearbox and RS2000 rear axle

I used to have a sticker in the back of my car that said "I'd Rather be Flying". I think that its a safer thing to do.
Can you get insurance on your car for doing that?

@Vizslaman It last ran a few months ago but I din't drive it anywhere, no MOT etc .
Its a 1700 crossflow, fairly racy cam and twin DCOE's, high flow oil pump, adjustable cam, etc (I built the engine) with T9 gearbox and 3.54 open diff in a Westfield diff carrier, IRS. There's no excess weight, it weighs less than 500 kilos according to a weighbridge. It's an 88 chassis that I found in a garage, never been built. I have loads of bits that I have never fitted, windscreen, doors, tonneau, roof, heater boot box etc etc.
I did enough to make it legal and haven't really progressed any further. My intention was always to track day it but never got that far.
