Been offered some for £95As title says what do we think there going to be worth ? I’ve a few too many triplet ewes I might part with some again .
Oh I did see that advertised come to think of itSoon find out! There's a good draw going through Dumfries on Friday...
I’d still take the £180 and think I was well in. That last month before and the first 3 weeks after lambing are bloody risky!A good ewe with twins at foot might make £300 ) £100/head).
The same ewe sold in lamb 2 months previously might make £180.
Those prices are at the upper limit, but it shows how much extra folk will pay for a ewe already lambed.
Its the risk of bringing something into your lambing ewes and you don't know what the tup was like or how accurate the scanner was.In lamb ewes generally make slightly more than cull money in my opinion unless they’re something special…. People don’t want too lamb sheep anymore they just want them when the job is done
I like selling ewes and lambs, it make no difference lambing an extra 50 ewes but makes a hell of a difference to my bank account in may selling 50 brokers with lambs at £75/life. 90 lambs off the farm with nothing done to them and 50 less ewes to shear and pick the dead ones up in late may and June.Whenever I've tried to sell in lamb ewes it's been break even at best (purchase price and cost of carry).
Ewes with lambs at foot seem to be the most expensive way to buy sheep.
Last 3 years Iv bought a problem in buy buying inlamb ewes and none of them have ever lambed when they said, had what they said and 1 batch didn’t even have the same breed of tup they said… so finally learned my lesson this yearIts the risk of bringing something into your lambing ewes and you don't know what the tup was like or how accurate the scanner was.
I guess the main market for ewes with lambs at food would have been when we had sheep quota and lost a few during lambingWhenever I've tried to sell in lamb ewes it's been break even at best (purchase price and cost of carry).
