What’s the rate for large scale solar?

Are these large scale systems viable in the more northern parts of the country? I am on north yorkshire woods, good free draining arable land, these sites are perhaps utilising less productive land?

Sorry I have just noticed a mistake in the original post - I meant the North Yorkshire wolds, not woods.

Gar too much tax implications and time required at the moment and after all it’s all best guess , we have had interest on 100 acres but won’t bother with it until there is more clarity.

There are numerous ways of sorting the tax angle out
And no one knows what the tax situation will be in 20-30 years time ( the life of these schemes)

I belive “ Harvesting the Sunshine” is another farm diversification and an alternative crop

check out Lightsource giving a talk at Www.RBN.org.uk on “Is my land suitable for a solar farm”

Im in Durham andam in the process of large scale solar
Planning permission has been granted
So it is possible

LightsourceBP are seeking sites
give them a ring

LightsourceBP are busy installing a site just across the river from us, relatives are going to planning with lightrock, that will take the last available grid capacity at that sub station. I suspect we are too far from next available grid connection. How far are you having to go to get a connection?
To me a combination of renewables plus ELMS is going to be a way to wind down to retirement and to be honest with no kids IHT is not a major concern to me.

Lightsource can be tricky, had a few runs ins with them before. Every week its a different person trying to deal with you who deny previous discussions!

there seems to be another spike in random solar punters around at the moment promising the earth and ignoring actual grid availability or things like green belt! Had several try and get us to sign up on the doorstep recently - I mean do people actually do this after a 5 minute chat with someone in a shiny clean car!?

I think unless you have grid secured or know its there, and seen the letters from the Grid themselves (not the middle man) then boat has sailed. I hear of stories locally of more grid 'on the way' but then they forget to tell you its only a £16m cheque to write out to get this, who the hell is going to do that now!?

Who pays the business rates on a solar farm? An agent has asked me to sign an Exclusivity Agreement for a small project (20 megawatts or so). They are indicating rent of £700 per acre but there's no mention of who pays the business rates.

They pay the business rates, and it’ll be more than the rent you get paid!!

Just reading the thread, other point is to index link the rental to RPI when/if you agree and look at insuring the income eg lightning strike through the contract or possibly as a separate policy if the rental contract exposes the risk to you. These big firms will have assessed their risk and probably with (clever) lawyers. You might get it checked out for free through NFU.

Your battery storage standalone should be £1200/acre/month. Thats what we've been offered for a 4 acre storage site and a provisional £800/acre/year for solar on the remainder of the site
Batteries should be north of £1200 per MW, not acre.
You can get 2 MW of batteries in a shipping container.

Ah good, I have a contract like that, what was £12k in 2012 is now £14.1k but I’ve only just noticed and haven’t added the cpi on their invoice.....
