Is the speed limit(s) on various roads for a current Hilux the same as a standard car?

I was told it was when I bought it but better half has been in a speed awareness course today (oops ?) and said they put the Reg in and I should be doubt 60 max on motorway for instance.
Completely wrong . It’s a commercial vehicle . So 50 on single , 60 on dual and 70 on motorway

On my speed awareness course I was told that if VAT had been reclaimed at the time of purchase it was a commercial vehicle and therefore subject to the same limits as vans.
They are wrong. If it is a crew cab pickup that weighs under 2040kgs it is a dual purpose vehicle and subject to car speed limits. VAT status does not figure in this.
If it is a single cab [it will therefore be a commercial rather than dual purpose] or weighs more than 2040kgs then lower speed limits apply on some classes of roads. 50 on standard roads and 60 on dual carriageways unless indicated to be lower by speed signs or other regulations. 70 still applies to motorways though.

As a matter of interest which of the higher spec 4 X 4 crew cabs come in at under 2040kg?

They have made it so commercial vehicles have to slow down a bit. This is particularly aimed at the white van man who has a full load on board who wants to go 60mph everywhere.

Not all pick ups are classed as commercial though.

Not true

All pickups are commercials, classed as N1 Commercial (EU classification)

Some have a DPV exemption if under 2040kgs unladen and are double cabs

Lower speed limits came about in the 1970's when the 2 metric ton limit was introduced - so not a new phenomena
