What 4wd car

Looking for a car for my elderly mum, she's 73 and has a bad knee, currently drives discovery td5, but my mum feels its too big and heavy for her, soslooking for a smaller vehicle. Due to her bad knee. She doesn't want a low car which would make getting in and out difficuilt, so having something thats easy to get in and out of, Ideally 4wd, as there's a rough track up to her house, and get quite a bit of snow here, diesel preferably but not essential, probably spending a max of £3k ish any ideas, i don't really have the time to wander round looking at different cars and trying them out. out. cars do your elderly parents drive ?
Thanks H H

freelander?? perhaps automatic ….. will the Discovery be for sale? as I am looking for suitable vehicle to tow trailer

Possibly, it's a T reg td5s.
S for simple
no sunroofs to leak
No ace active cornering enhancement to go wrong
5 seater, so springs all round
Normal cabin heater (no ac) not fancy climate controll
Has a super chip in the ecu, was told 170bhp, but much better tourque.
Lever and linkage fitted so center diff lock works.
Had had a brand new replacement head just before we bought it at 70k due to the plastic dowels melting and the head cooked itself

BUT will need chassis work at the rear (where they all go) for the next mot
But need to find something for mum. First

Mum (75) has just bought a Ford Ecosport 140 (last of the 'old shape', used).

It's a "Fiesta on stilts" and ticks the boxes for a lady that used to drive big 4x4's, but now needs something compact and tall with a small turning circle. Up until about 4 months ago she was driving the Civic Type R that she bought for her 60th birthday, but bucket seats and arthritis don't go well together so 'Granny Whizz' had to change her car.

The Ecosport wont be anywhere near your 3K budget though; the new shape is available as a 4x4 too, iirc.
