Boggy.
Specialise.
When trade drops, the crap drops most, quality stuff will hold it's worth much better.
Do a cash flow but FFS don't expect it to be right!
One bad day at mart, one wet day in Lambing time/hay time/ harvest will Fek you up, so expect that.
Back your OWN judgement, and don't forget to put your money where your mouth is.

Work out your goals well in advance..
If you want to succeed then you really have to want it, bad. Farming isn't all flash toys and work when you feel like it..
Every choice you make will hopefully either bring you closer to, or further away from your goals, whatever they may be; therefore it takes drive and discipline if you want to make farming work as a career. As a job, it's much like most jobs, with worse pay hours and weather. So don't believe all you see on Faceache.

Afternoon all,

I'm looking at doing an advice piece for young farmers on the FG website - it would be interesting to see what experienced farmers like yourselves would say to them.

Would be fantastic to get a wide range of thoughts from a variety of farmers across the world to use in the article.
Thanks in advance :)

So, what advice would you give a budding young farmer?

Travel around the world looking at how others do it not how the neighbors or how family do it don't rush into it there's plenty of time to turn into a grumpy old f**ker

Yes,a career in farming is far less rewarding financially than the folk on the 'which Range Rover' thread will have you believe.
They're only asking about secondhand range rovers

I meant reading about people who never lose a calf or sheep that only have twins.
