Leek yesterday, anything with milk on it is as valued as a golden cock atm

I guess people want milk now due to current milk prices being so good?
Seems that way, I've bought 50 ic holstein heifers this week, due late May through to early Sept. Average circa £1150. All holstein and ic to either sexed,Hereford or conventional b&w, my theory is the calf value will cover the cost of keeping them through to calving so if they stand me at towards £1200 calved in I'll be happy enough.

Sounds like good value. We don't usually buy IC heifers, but got one at recent dispersal. She cost £1500 and calved 2 weeks later with a nice sexed semen heifer calf. I think fresh heifers in milk were over £1900 at the dispersal.

I'm the same, always tried to buy fresh strong heifers but I can't compete with where they are at the moment and needing towards 60 animals for the next robot wasn't very appealing with a £2k average

How are you getting on with the flecks?

tbf they are fine, fertility is good, they are spirited when being handled, trimmer hates them, milk yields maybe havent reached the heights we hoped after some excellent heifer lactations, we do find a fair % of them have below average milk speed which is important. Havent bought anymore since my initial 17 imports and i am able to source tidy 3/4 month ic b&w heifers considerably cheaper atm so thats the route we have taken.

Most of those calves were at least 3 months old most 4, clean calves must of dropped fair since we sold calves.
Calves are well back on trade from last autumn ( unsure when you last sold )

You can easily pick up a decent size bunch of top end Angus/ Lim etc bulls for around the £240 head average mark currently.

Calves will go dearer mind when the lilac is out!

The cows late last summer
Sold entire herd 195 cows + bulling heifers + heifer calves , as one, to a new unit.
I was very well pleased with the deal when I did it 6 weeks ago.
My milk price has gone up 5.5p/l since then, so not sure what they would be worth today, but I'm happy and wish the buyer well.
Cows finally started to move this week , 3 loads, 105 cows less for weekend.
A 50 year era coming to an end.

Unfortunately the 5.5p has been taken by fuel/fert/feed and it seems cows have stalled

Looking really well, you should be proud of them and that you finished on a high note!
