What are these people on?!?

The French have banned non-meat products using descriptions such as steak, sausage, bacon flavoured etc to protect their livestock industry from imitative products. About time it happened here too.
The difference is that there are a lot of smaller farmers in France , which equates to voting power in the first instance , and a well supported militancy too . Put together and you have the answer . Plus the fact that just about all the politicians here support the idea of an "office / industrial" based economy in this country , whilst depending on other more agriculturally minded countries to supply the foodstuffs that we need i.e. Denmark , Holland , to name just two . In their minds agriculture is unimportant to this country , despite the fact that they will deny this (just to show willing as it were !)
