Round here we call these bullsnouts and they are spreading like hell in the last few wet years. They must be a type of grass as do not respond to mcpa like a rush does. Any control methods much appreciated

My Gramp who originated from Shrops, called them hassocks and spent a lot of time digging them and chucking them on a trailer, reckon he also knapsacked them with Sodium Chlorate.
But then, he called a pitch fork a Pikle and a muck heap a Mixen....

We also call them hassocks, get quite a lot on the flood land here. Cattle will occasionally graze the tips off them if they're getting short on grass. Would love to be able to get rid but they're on the flood land which will lay wet at some point in any type of year.

yes definitely tufted hair grass deschampsia.. pheeww! have a field with springs and bust drains covered in it but has always been left as a challenging field but if it gets away it looks a mess and nothing eats it unless very hungery.

Best thing you can do is top it in june so it doesnt spread.
Graze hard over winter, and lather on the muck in spring.
It gets less and less as the soil improves and other grasses compete.

Sadly on poor soil clay ground that gets wet, its hard to get rid without sorting the drainage

We call them tussocks too. Get them on our Ings land where water stands. Spray with roundup but they don't seem to reduce in numbers
