What are we scared of?

Which independent experts were there to verify this? I think we've been falling for Russian propaganda about how good its forces and weapons are.

on the anti sat part

as for the anti ICBM part, much of the same tech used in anti sat, can also be used in anti ICBM

If you were thinking of starting a hugely unpopular war with another country that would lead to death and destruction on both sides, would you tell your own side months in advance. Or would you rationaly engineer a situation (troop exercises and false reasons for attacking) to go in at the last moment when there's little option for opposition?

Well, it worked once; however, I was referring to the general impression that Russia has given, but we are seeing - very clearly - that things such as their missile response, from the ground and aircraft, is not at all good, certainly not as has been presented. And definitely nowhere near as good as that which we have. Ditto the armour on their 'new generation' APCs etc., it's being taken to pieces by the very weapons that it was designed to counter. And there are many more examples, all setting aside its forces' operational disorganisation and logistics failures.

It seems what we are scared of now is chemical weapons, russia seems to have persuaded china into agreeing that the US has chemical labs in ukraine and the CIA believe russia will use this as an excuse to drop sarin gas on cities they have failed to take. I think i will stop watching the news when this happens, just gut wrenching and sickening to think about the possibility of it. I feel ashamed that putin and assad got away with using it in syria and more wasnt said and done to bring them to account for it. Yesterday they thought china might be cooling its support for russia, today looks very different. Scary in a world running short of food and fuel that these two super powers who dont seem to have any morals about killing and starving people exist on our planet and cannot be stopped.

China will not stop supporting Russia. It cannot. It too is a totalitarian no democratic state. Client states in the the world will also fall into groups supporting the Sino/Rus or the USA. Can see the initial splitting in the UN vote a few days ago. Slightly troubling how many abstained. Hey ho. WW3 continues.

If he doesn’t get control of Ukraine what’s to stop him sending a bomb anyway
he’s nothing to lose
he’s finished anyway
The experts call it an exit ramp, he needs one to climb down and not look defeated but his actions and words have backed himself into corner with no exit. Russians need to remove him to save the country from years of poverty and exile from the western world

The scene reminds me of a school where the boy from the rough side of town terrorises the other kids with his knuckleduster. The rich kids have fancy pepper sprays and sirens but won't help the little guy that's always picked on by the bully. 'we're only allowed to use our sprays if he picks on us' they whinge.

At the moment “we” are trying to end the war, not escalate it. Awful as it is, I suppose it has to be the best course of action, for the moment.😢

China -really its CCP dictators - needs as many other dictatorships as possible, less chance of it being overthrown then.

But neither Russia nor China are 'superpowers', China is working towards it but is further away than most realise, Russia's days are long gone - it's only claim to relevance is its nuclear 'threat' - assuming that it is genuine. These two dictatorships certainly have no qualms about who or how many they kill, or in what manner. But they aren't 'superpowers', neither can properly project power.

We really have to make our minds up. Disengagement from China should also be an economic aim of the UK. Self reliance is something that the UK should take far more seriously IMO.

what would your definition of a "superpowers" be then
Of course everything like this is a bit nebulous but, at a minimum... I'd say being able to project power globally economically, online, and militarily by air and on land and at sea; having a credible nuclear deterrent too, and the ability to carry out at least two major campaigns in entirely different theatres, all while being able to defend, fuel and feed itself. I guess there are are other things that don't spring to mind immediately, but I'd say any state which cannot boast all of the above, simultaneously, isn't a superpower.

Seems the Russians are the only ones tbat can treaten to escalate, why can't we?
They have no right to be in the air above Ukraine, we do if invited by the Ukrainian government.
Tell the barstewards that next time they hit a childrens hospital the response will be 'severe'
Putin's been let get away with too much already. Not advocating a war to invade Russia just to drive them out of Ukraine.
Don't put up with the murderous scum any longer.
(So what if those Migs are flown from Germany?)
Here you go.
If you feel so strongly about it, off you trot to join the fighting. Do your bit.

Ok, I'm in. Just fitting a gun mount to my zimmer frame.
In past life I've experienced Russian bullying and glad the Yanks stood up to them. Hope they carry on that tradition.
