It’s an interesting thought whether you believe in it or not.

I have to confess I have done nothing. In fact, probably worse as we plough a lot albeit we are intending to look at strip till for maize

To be honest, it will only be cost saving measures we adopt to the benefit of the business rather than the planet.

I am off to stand in a corner. Anyone joining me?

Course I do, it was lovely yesterday, misty rain today!
Of course it’s all a question of time scale, didn’t the Romans grow grapes in Yorkshire?

Less journeys in the truck if possible, combine pick ups if we can.
Try and use less energy
The usual.
Less holidays not possible as we don't have any much in the first place- my fault I know!
I cringe at the latest progs telling people how many tons of co2 they save eating this and that but if it soaks into folks skulls and changes habits all well and good.
Will prolly retire soon and go fishing or get my canal barge.
Should I get a sail for it?

Mindful of it, and doing what I can.
But ultimately my GHG reductions have been market driven by cost savings (fuel / fert) and time savings: reductions in tillage, and melting our own liquid fert using waste ammonium sulphate from a chemical plant.

We’ve done lots of insulation and double glazing on farmhouse and cottages.

Building aspect (SE/NW) doesn’t lend itself to effective solar production, and biomass / offsetting is nothing less than a scam.

Wind power planning was thwarted by some terminally short sighted SNP councillors who were more worried about ‘the effect on tourism’ than mitigating the farms effect on the environment or creating income to be circulated in the local economy. ScotGov instead chose to allow Fred Olsen and Iberdrola to build the largest wind farms in Europe, and watch all of the profit go offshore.

And I don’t believe we should ‘wait for China to ban coal’ etc, we need to get our house in order. Even if ‘The Climate Emergency’ is debunked as a doomsday cult (and it has it’s share of nutters), every litre of refined diesel or kg of AN is reduction from a finite ‘fossil fuel’ total, and we need to work on the alternatives now.

Mitigate? Effects on my enterprise: Making sure I have drought tollerant species in the grazing rotation for the summer and a shed full of hay for extreme wet/snow in the winter. Breeding sheep that do well off anything better than cardboard.

IMHO the biggest danger for everyone is HMG, Civil Service and Authorities - their draconian policies are already very damaging.

I was looking recently at the "Forecast" timeline for "Climate Bollox" in the Guardian.

I think worst case was 4 degrees in about 100 years, so in other words nothing much at all. UK cities are 3 degrees higher today than their surroundings so the pretense that even 1 degree is going to make lives a "Disaster" is a sick joke.

We still haven't got any data given by anybody on how much CO2 heats the environment. We do have comments that Methane and Water are 100x more powerful than CO2. But nothing concrete that somebody could be sued over.

So there's plenty of movement there for the Environmental loonies to have a "Get out of jail free" card if things don't work out - which IMHO is pretty obvious it won't work.

Is the OP question asking what we are doing to lesson our contribution to change or what measures we are taking to mitigate its effects on us? For the latter I have decided not to buy a beach front house or one on a floodplain.... Beyond that what specific changes would you be mitigating against? I certainly don't know with any confidence exactly what global climate changes will mean for the local weather patterns... it could be this farm gets hotter and drier, it could be it gets hotter but wetter, it could become colder and drier or drier and wetter....

Government policy seems to be driven by social media. Frightening really, when you see some of the ignorant crap on Facebook etc. I can see a time when the UK is re wilded ( scrub ), whilst we import food from abroad grown on cleared rainforest.

But you know it makes sense. The great well pensioned ex civil service and ex large corporations just spend their time out in the country rambling or volunteering for Wildlife Trusts doing good to repair the damage from agriculture.!!
