What breed to put on cattle passport?

I've got 2 passports here for 2 steers born on the same day and have the same sire eartag.

One passport says Aberdeen Angus X but the beast looks Jersey.

The other passport says Belted Galloway X. The beast looks Galloway without the belt.

How can they have the same sire but different breeds. Do people just look at the calf and put down whichever breed is most favourable out of the cross?

I'm not convinced the previous keeper was all that up together with paperwork. Trying to trace the sire and dams details on BCMS online doesn't help, their breeds aren't listed.

I'm new to this so sorry if its a daft question

if its a big herd n a number of sweeper bulls you cant be certin of the sire every time, angus n jersey could look similar, it could be angus sire n jersey mother, of course if passport says angus rather than jersey it could add some value
theres also lots of shoddy records about

Thanks for the replies.

Putting Angus sire to a Jersey dam makes perfect sense, and thus calling it an Angus.

But why put the same sire to a Galloway dam and then call it a Galloway when the Angus would attract the premium?

Who knows, I just wondered if there was a rule of thumb out there.
