Does the qualifications last forever or do you have to retest every so many years?

For ever I think.

I did my at college 14 yrs ago, so my id card still has a very youthful carefree photo on it :D

Might even be abit awkward at the ag merchant checkout, youthful photo vs haggard 33 yr old in person

But then I've never.....ever..... been asked to produce that card when buying sprays

Only person that's ever asked to see it....... Farm assurance

pa9 as stated for the screwdriver. Plus Pa9.1.4 as it's blunt. You should probably wear full riot gear as it's classed as a weapon. Definitely do a risk assessment for bending your left knee. Ensure full safety protocol is followed to ensure thistle doesn't get eaten by screwdriver operator.

Did mine at college to but can't find my card or any paperwork work it was for the knapsack spraying part so is there any way I can get a new card or would I have to do it all over again?

We dont use spray at all! My cousin was over from Ireland a few years back and said there is a old saying with us!
Kill a thistle in July and it will die!!

I know its a good while again now before you can try this but its true. Topping thistles in july kills them. End of! I now have no more thistles and didnt need any licence to sray!

They charge for new paperwork or researching your number. I rang a trainer and said I think I've done it years ago but could you check for me. A few taps on the computer and he reeled off my number and date I passed. Job done!

I would guess it's NPTC that you done them through, if you contact them and give them your details (full name, d.o.b etc) then they should hopefully be able to find you on the system to reissue the relevant paperwork.

They last for life but the recommendation is to keep up to date with current legislation requirements by however you see fit given how often things change. Some people use NROSO updates every year, others decide they want to do a refresher course every few years in the modules they hold, it's left to the individual at the moment.

And long may it remain so. It's little more than 'Jobs for the boys' already, but I'm guessing as less people need to get their certificates, there will be pressure from those that earn out of it, to bring compulsary refresher courses in.:banghead: I fully expect Red Tractor to help the push.

sorry to hijack the thread but I am thinking of doing the courses but who does it in the Wrexham/n wales area, and what are the rough costs?

I can't see the legislation getting relaxed so might as well do it sooner rather than later.

I agree that the system should remain how it is as I'm not just instructor but work on farms too so can see it from both sides. If anyone is going to push for refreshers it will be HSE and insurance companies, exactly how it is with the forklift side of things currently.
There's been no sign of a reduction in the amount of pesticide training courses being booked as the amenity sector falls under the same legislation as agriculture so it keeps us busy.
