Christ the size of the fine!

Shows what a joke the British legal system is...
I have a neighbour that would try a trick like that. He got caught big time for handling stolen tractors quad bikes landrovers etc and walked away with a suspended sentence! Poor chap did get done £30000 for proceeds of crime, what a shame. Now walks around market like butter wouldn't melt, why the auctioneers let him still buy is beyond me ,why feed merchants supply him and a local farmer sell him straw I cannot understand, they all need to grow a pair.

we are all so vunerable to theft, and, to be honest, not a lot we can do about it, lock everything up, they cut chains with a cordless disc grinder, if they can't get in that way, make a mess of battering in, cousins, they went in through the roof. Cattle/sheep are easy targets, we had some taken out the yards, a good dog and couple of people, soon load out of fields, police ? they are a joke, might see 1 drive by, once a year. We have night milk pick-up, so gates are a bit awkward for serious shutting. In the USA, they can shoot them ! unfortuantly, we cannot, if they are caught, odds on they are fairly local !

Should bring back hanging that's what used to happen to livestock thieves.

Seeing a ‘suspended sentence’ (slap on the wrist) in the paper doesn’t have quite the same effect as the old deterrent: seeing someone dangling from the gibbet on the hill.

No but publicity on all SM for anyone and named post conviction like the Devonian mentioned above would be a start ..................

Just bring back the stocks as well for more minor offences or cut their fingers off .
This would sort 50% of the prison occupants!
