If I were an MOT Station inspector I think I would be investigating the testing station which tested the vehicle in 2017.

Why get a MOT and no tax - Was it actually tested ? How many other vehicles tested at that MOT station ar similarly not Taxed ? Strange...
Maybe he likes to know his vehicle is roadworthy (at time of test) but doesn't like paying tax
It does make you wonder about all these "supposed" ANPR cameras though

I just asked for a copy of the software so I could do the management of numbers myself which they were happy to let me have, it’s very straight forward

I’m also told there is a gate managment app coming soon for our system so you will be able to make changes from a smart phone

But they will also make changes if I want and don’t charge for doing so

Thanks. This is a company from Nottingham....I did try your contact but we are too far for them. I will ask if we can have the software as I'm not sure I am too keen on him being in control of the gate, he's a one man band and makes me wonder what happens if he retires/goes bust/ dies
I just had someone round to discuss new gate opener and the chap is telling me that if I need to add or delete phone numbers for the gate access, that I will have to contact him and he will do this. Is this usual for the gate installer to have control of our intercom? I would like to be in control of this myself so just wanted a bit of advice please @Clive

Just received quote from the above man at Nottingham....good job I was sitting down.

For an underground motor, magnetic gate lock, connecting to power supply and armoured cable (20-30m), 2 sets photo cells and 1 gsm intercom.
Fitted to existing gate and trench dug by ourselves.

£7132.00 + vat

Similar here. Just been quoted £8.5k for a sliding gate with GSM and £3.8k for a swing gate!!! Makes cameras look cheap!!

Is it no mot it will be impounded ,no tax just a fine ?
I think they impound for no tax don't they, saw a car on the side of the road when driving through town one day with big stickers (obviously to make a point to others) saying untaxed vehicle impounded by Police (not quite the correct wording but that was the gist of it)

What would it actually achieve though, there are no registered keepers details, possibly false plates.
doesn't take two minutes to put the reg number in a couple of websites does it :scratchhead:

If I’m on the yard feeding I’ve not got the time or patience to hunt for multiple website pages then spend 10 mins going through them.

All I need is click the app, put in the number and have status feedback whether legal or not.

If dodgy I’d phone 101 (then faff with them for 10 mins) as I’d be forewarned they were not legit.

Tax has nothing to do with MOT other than the need for a valid MOT in order to obtain the tax. The MOT station have no knowledge of the tax status of the vehicle being tested & have no legitimate reason to perform any checks on the tax, all they are looking at is the roadworthieness of the vehicle.

None of which is really relevant as to whether the vehicle owner is a threat to you or your property , some thieving pikey`s/ poachers / burglars will run fully legal vehicles.

If legal you have the number you have a paper trail.

If false plates or not taxed then in our area the plod like to know as if they are calling at every farm in an area they will usually send a car and try and find them to ‘have a word’.
