Hi everyone,

My name's Will and I am one of the organisers of Farm Business Innovation 2014 - which is basically an exhibition and trade-show dedicated entirely to rural diversification. We've got a fantastic line up of key-note speakers & seminars lined up this year, alongside a wide range of exhibitors.
However, I would be interested to hear any opinions as to what you would like to learn about, the type of seminar you would find interesting, and the sort of exhibitors you would like to meet with.

Thanks!

Best form of diversification is do your own job properly reduction of costs and maximum profits and send the wife out to work no start up costs instantly generated cash income,

Absolutely. I have seen many farmers start messing around in a sideline they know nothing about, then their main farming business goes down the pan because it's neglected.

In my view, if you should only diversify when your core business is running perfectly, which for me would be never.

I would recommend farming the latest ill thought through subsidy. The green fuel tariff was a great earner if you were in early enough.

There will always be new ways to try out policies and mostly they want to get a good sample size so make it worthwhile to join. Many are sorting their businesses out on this free money. Doesn't happen every day but when it does, grab it.

Operating an illegal rubbish dump seems to be profitable until you get caught

Sadly we wouldn't be farming any longer without diversifying into diy livery, most farms in our area have a few stables, most including myself hate it but it allows us to keep doing a job we love. I would love to rip up the ground a farm it but we can't make it pay anywhere near what the pony brigade pay.
