What grass is this?

It’s all over the place here,doesn’t appear to have any leaf,just stalks, it’s untidy and I reckon it must be annoying for the ewes grazing amongst it.

Difficult from the photograph but possibly looks like Meadow Foxtail. Don’t think it’s Sweet Vernal Grass

Just to be different, looks a lot like crested dogs tail which has done well this year in our pp because not shaded by prg and festulolium which usually smother it. Crested dogs tail appears just like a stalk with no leaves which tend to grow low to the ground, common in lowland mixed species pp.

Yep I’d be inclined to agree with crested dogs tail. Fields have been extensively grazed for 40 years+, need to get going on a bit of a reseeding program, but held back for 5 years with wader grazing contracts

It does actually look quite nice from afar swaying in the wind, makes it look like you’ve got a great crop growing......til you get up close ?

Looks like crested dogstail. Meadow Foxtail is a very palatable grazing grass and good in hay

Our old fields have loads if it gets away. Driving at night it looks like a huge crop in the headlights but is pretty sparse.

Definitely Crested Dogs Tail.
We get it on land that hasn't been well enough grazed by the sheep.
