The crush I have just got does seem to answer all if the points you raise and was below the budget you mentioned but they are very valid points and are annoying to say the leastCattle crush design.
1. Half the time you can't even use them as if the beast goes down you wouldn't be able to get it out. Would it be beyond the wit of man to design a crush for which the whole side could open down if the beast went down.
2. The other half of the time you are supposed to inject intramuscular into the neck but that bit is sliding back and forth through the yoke at fair rate. So you find your halter and pull its head to one side but there is nothing purpose made to winch the halter rope round and control it other than just putting it round whatever bit of metal work you can find.
3. Self locking yokes are useless if the beast has a pair of horns.
So usually the £2k crush sits there useless while I trap the beast between a pair of hurdles tied and haltered and then inject it or attend to it exactly where needed,
