what grinds your gears

Amazon -- I'm amazed at the spying they do ! . I know full well they do some - but to write to me to tell me that I've been reading daily now for a total of 14 weeks - Good for you -- Keep it up ! . WTF has it got to do with them ? Apart possibly , that they think I might buy some more books from them . I think we all might be surprised - staggered even , at the amount of knowledge that various people have about our business , likes , tastes -- Knowledge for it's own sake ? Or with an ulterior motive . I notice also that if I do a search on my computer , shortly afterwards I'll get a message on my phone -- are you still interested in ---- ? I don't know about anybody else , but it fairly p155es me off .

We live in the Peak District, where there’s about a million footpaths and trails to go and walk on. But groups of walkers seem to love nothing more than to walk on roads (with no footpaths) and get in the way!!!! Why?!?!

The Henry Dimbleby report on the one o'clock news, first Boris saying it was jolly unfair to tax the producers of salty and sugary foods, followed by a picture of a big juicy steak when climate change was mentioned.
Sugar and salt tax just means the products remains largely the same, portion size reduces, price creeps up but natural sugar and salt be replaced with artificial flavourings and a few righteous slogans on the packet. I’d rather consume sugar than phenylalanine, 1-methyl ester.

Suggests 6-8% of farmland taken out of production to help hit net zero. No mention of relentless urban creep which will probably achieve that in the same timescale.

Salt and sugar tax, you aren't actually dealing with the problem just the tip of the iceberg.
You have probably eaten this:

  • Dehydrated Potatoes,
  • Vegetable Oils (Sunflower, Corn),
  • Rice Flour,
  • Wheat Starch,
  • Corn Flour,
  • Emulsifier (E471),
  • Maltodextrin,
  • Salt,
  • Yeast Extract,
  • Yeast Powder,
  • Colour (Annatto)
Yup what ever that concoction is, it is meant to be food....
Salt and sugar look good compared to this.

It's actually rather a good game, this:

  • Vegetable Oils in varying proportions (39%) (Rapeseed, Palm, Sunflower),
  • Water,
  • Olive Oil (21%),
  • Salt (1.1%),
  • Buttermilk (Milk),
  • Emulsifiers (Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids),
  • Preservative (Potassium Sorbate),
  • Acid (Citric Acid),
  • Natural Flavouring,
  • Vitamins A and D,
  • Colour (Carotenes)
Is a "healthy" substitute for milk........

oh dear the grand kids luv pringles!
Until they have tried making crisps, potato peeler, air fryer and lots of mistakes, maybe some blood and loads of learning. Down side, they need salt - or if you are feeling really reckless melt sugar in a pan and run them through. That is food - and the grand kids will think you are God. :)
