It annoys me that the electricity distribution company can never tell me when they are going to renew the line and poles. It’s been “imminent” for three years now and we have left stubbles late etc to help avoid making a mess etc but then they never actually turn up.
Now their tree trimming gang wants access and made a preliminary visit identifying overgrowth that needs cutting back. Of course they have no idea when they are going to turn up either which makes it awkward for me knowing when to move the various hare courser obstacles and leave a bit uncultivated to reduce the amount of mud trailed out onto my road. So what I did today was trimmed off all the overgrowth myself and burnt it. I reckon I had it done quicker than their preliminary visit and I didn’t need to close one lane of an A road and leave the village without power for the day for elf n safety as none of the growth was anywhere near the lines. Maybe if they leave some poles and wire I could renew the line as well while they are so busy on preliminary studies and risk assessments.
Nobody actually gets anything done nowadays.
I had a tree trimming gang in two years ago as they said trees were touching lines. Proper hack job. Left branches and logs all over the place and trees they "trimmed" are lopsided or Y shaped with wires in the middle. I'm a tennant, so had no say in matter they just turned up and made a mess.

We had some seriously sagging wires and had similar from sse.

Couple of minor line strikes eventually focussed their minds 🤦‍♂️

We need longer poles quite urgently as a matter of safety but it never seems to happen. They are presently doing yet another study on under grounding the line which will no doubt take years. In the meantime the old 1960’s line is a danger to large machinery and generally we lose a pole to wind every other winter.

The linesman here was very good and helpful. When combining a field with the “big poles” (138kv?) he had power shut off then we drove combine under with tank open and it was within 1m of contact 😳.

to add we’d not cut beneath them for years.

I try to avoid driving directly under them with the combine but get the edge of the bed under the line. That kind of voltage doesn't take prisoners.

Did the same, covers closed and cut parallel with only the table edge under the wires.

did have a scary moment with demount sprayer once, folded out after passing a pole, reversed back, then as I started to pull away the lower trunion bearing collapsed on the fastrac(4ws) and the whole osr hub came off sending the left hand boom skywards 💩

one of many ways that bitch of a machine has tried to do away with me over the years. 😆

Today on a stretch of 2 lane A1(M) car and caravan (their speed limit is 60 mph) travelling at about 54.5 mph meaning that all the trucks which are happily trundling along in lane 1 at 55 to 56 mph have to overtake this inconsiderate driver taking two or three miles to execute the manoeuvre and thus effectively holding up 10 miles of traffic when all they needed to do was travel 3 to 5 mph faster and free up hundreds of other drivers…….rant over.
see it all the bloody time car drivers that as I like to put it playing with the trucks causing mayhem behind them and refusing to let you pass and getting annoyed when your up their arses f**king cock wombles

Causing an HGV to have to overtake a vehicle capable of travelling faster than itself to enable legal progress should be subject to Capital Punishment.

Getting a letter of the water supplier stating send in your meter reading as it has been inaccessible to read the meter. I’m thinking , what makes me more capable at reading a meter than a professional that’s probably been on a course....anyway, manhole at the side of the road, lifts the lid off, oh, I see the problem 2” of soil on top of the meter! Quickly took out the soil , about a spade full, read the meter.....

Bought a new electric cooker. Not cheap. After 4 days use it’s overheating big time. Looks like the thermostat has bust. Stuck at 250 deg c wherever you set it. Mrs not pleased. I’ll bet it’s the same old crap on/off thermostat in there they have been using since 1960. I said to the bloke in the shop why can’t it use a thermocouple with closed loop control by thyristor with a digital readout of temperature? He looked at me like I’d grown horns but sure enough it doesn’t work very well at all as it is.
