just to change the subject I got a letter at the weekend from the council with maps telling me I have trees on the roadside they think have ash dieback and I must cut them down immediately if i have not done so in twenty days they will get contractors in and send me the bill there are about ten full-grown trees and numerous small ones along the road through the woods firstly when they were in full leaf they looked quite healthy secondly the letter was dated 30 November I received it on Friday fifth so it actually gives me two weeks to comply I am livid that they are so high handed there not having been any discussion about it just an ultimatum do they thin we have nothing better to do they can't be that dangerous as they have all come through the recent storms undamaged the thought of having to pay a tree surgeon makes my blood run cold a neighbor got one in to cut down a medium-sized tree and it cost her three grand!

Dark mornings, dark afternoons.
Grants. Are they really that tempting when you get down to the nitty gritty, manufacturers with there over inflated high prices, take the mobile sheep race, the entry level 5k one is not eligible, you have to have the 9k pro to qualify, i just cant be arsed with it.
TB tests every 6 months when i have been clear for 4 years and i have a closed herd.
Plus why have trailers got so f#cking expensive? and don,t say steels gone up.

TB testing ...our vets are snowed under with it . Wanted to pre-test a few bulls to move onto a different holding to make room in the sheds .....end of Jan for a test . They say it's cos of the six month rule .

Had a plumber lined up for ages to do a few jobs in my home.should have come last week but had a medical emergency day before so did not come.so arranged for end of this week and today got a txt saying call wymondham plumbing to pay for your stuff,2 rads and a sink.called and asked if he did not trust me to pay as first time I’ve ever had this And it was never mentioned months ago when he first looked.had electricians here recently and got £1500 plus bill after couple months of starting.which I paid by return.this don’t stand well with me so someone else will do the work now.is this standard procedure now days.all my digger work is invoiced end of month after completion and payed 28 days after that.plumber is well established and I understand hellishly expensive too at £300 day.
nick…
When I built my current house my electrician suggested that I open a trade account for the supplies he needed for the project - I paid for the goods and he fitted them, worked well and saved me a significant sum compared to the £50 per socket method often used by a QS for electrical work.
However that was the electrician - the plumber was a tw* t

We had this. Get an independent tree specialist who is NOT a tree surgeon to assess them; he will tell you which if any need to come down and give you a piece of paper for the council to put in their file. Then just get him back every two years to check them. It's just the council passing responsibility and they don't have the sense or manners to go about it politely.

Don't ask someone who would be involved in felling them or you will find that strangely every single one must come down immediately.

I had a guy in at the start of the year to cut down an Ash and a few other bits and bobs, 2 of them with a hired cherry picker was £580 for the day I think.

Travis perkins, every time I make my once yearly visit in a quick rush for something I go, it cannot be as bad as I remember it is and I leave empty handed and drive six miles past to the good builders merchant

I know that I am lucky to get payment for solar power and electricity poles from various power people.

Why do they have to send cheques and reckon that they can't do bacs?
Like the inland revenue, can deduct tax from wages weekly before they even touch the bank

Due a refund? Cheque

All the branches more or less shut round here now, try and scan cheques on the phone is almost always a problem.

they must have millions unclaimed cos cashing a £12.73 cheque is more trouble than it’s worth.

I was like that for years, but find myself giving in to what seems to be the norm.

A customer called the other day, in the conversation he mentioned he was in the office watching rain beat on the windows.

After a while he asked me to text my email address. I said I could tell him now if he grabs a pen. No, he said he would sooner I text it.

Things like address's I like to be sent on in a text as I don't hear very well and its easy to to have to say pardon five or six times and I end up feeling a bit dim. Same for post codes for the satnav.

Probably so he could add it to your contact details on his phone without having to type it in

I’m no Luddite. Texting details is where it’s at, especially the Welshies (we all know why! No hate mail, please).

I still think a transaction should be be spoken rather than blipped over some XBox controller, that’s all.

Customers vet dealers, and rightly so. Due diligence. I also want to hear the customer, though. Sometimes, the best deal you do is the one you don’t do.

If somebody is text/email only, they are generally trouble in my experience.
