How do you mean? The Vario is for all intents and purposes a hydrostat.

The basic cab frame is certainly very similar, just about everything bolted to it is different, there’s certainly a more comfortable seat in my 62’s despite the fact the one in the 74 is supposedly higher spec

I mean like a combine. The handle stays at the speed you want it. Then back beyond the middle is reverse. Works in combines/choppers. Think it would be good in tractors.

I did not know that I thought it was Deutz all through the range sorry..

Think the smaller ones are now using AGCO Power engines.

Yes the 1000 series and new 900 series are both using MAN 6-cylinder units. A 12.4 lites unit in the 1000 series and 9 litre unit in the 900 series.

200 and 300 series are using AGCOPower engines. 500's, 700's and 800's are using Deutz units.

In my original post I said it had to do 20k plus hours with hardly a spanner near it. That won't be an autopwer. Never driven a JD vario I'm afraid so didn't know they were like that.

With robots farming will go back to how it was before the war. Lots of labour (robots) very little big tackle. Crops will be harvested whole and taken to a thresher on the edge of the field.

Gonna need a big change of thinking through the whole logistic chain though. These robots will need suppling to keep them moving.

Huh? That's how a modern Vario/CVT works. Pedal mode when you want it (you could keep it that way if you wish indefinitely). Use the reverser switch on the left stalk to change direction or pull the stick towards you to change direction.

In stick mode the machine stays at the speed you want unless you push forward more or pull it back. Set your revs independently as needed for PTO work or let TMS (or the equivalent in other brands) manage the engine revs to suit the speed and load. Several cruise/speed memories should you need it.

Think ur misunderstandin us. With say a fendt you push joystick forward to go faster and back to go slower but with say a harvester or road roller the middle is stop and you push it forward til you reach desired speed its just handier. Take a jd autopower when ur in pedal mode on the road and your lever is at max forward that doesnt mean ur doin 50k it just means ur max speed is 50k but a forager when the lever is fully forward ur doin full speed of whatever gear your in

True. But we had a big change the opposite way already, so why not back again.

Ok I think I see what your saying; the stick would effectively be an absolute speed /direction control lever - but that's not how a vario would necessarily function, as engine revs and ground speed on a vario unit are not linear like with a hydro.

For me at least the current method works very well and is straightforward. You can alter the aggressiveness /responsiveness, as you want, and it still allows small incremental changes to speed which (to me again) is more important than just being able to push at the stick all the way to "max" or all the way to "zero".

It would also be for more difficult to (repeatedly) get right on an absolute position lever that just went from 0 to 55k.

Yes but if they included it in your tranny options it would be nice feature for sum jods that dont require an exact speed but still could choose to operate it the way we currently do aswel. I think it be handy for occasional drivers cause any numpty can drive a vibratin road roller
