Thats not heavy land if you can pull 7 furrs!Thats what id call heavyView attachment 865027
Even when it werent raining it were always damp!We have spots like the OP in nearly every field. And our average field size is about seven acres. Nearly all grass here. The problem is the light land isn't sandy. It's a silty loam that sticks to the wet boards like buggery. Off at every other headland with the spade if the conditions are ripe for it.
The weather is different here too. Always damp, so land like that at the moment is a no go area for walking on. Once it's ploughed though, two or three half decent days make a job of it.
Did the neighbours call the asylum? Some years ago I was rolling some land and the rolls were doing practically nothing despite being rolled 3 or 4 times. Basically just shuffling bricks.
Getting a bit pee'd off .. as some on here know happens on occassion .. I decided to try going round & round in circles moving a tractor length or so forward every circle.
The rotational sheer was brilliant .. there you go .. tip of the day .. all you need is plenty of sun to bake that boys land into a brick or two.
As i said i think it has a 500hp fendt on it!Thats not heavy land if you can pull 7 furrs!

I saw some shocking messes on that strip last autumnThere’s a strip of land east of the A1 that runs from Newcastle to the Scottish Borders that is bloody awful, catch it right and it’s probably some of the best wheat growing land in the country tho
I guess its the one who is brave to try it thats the challenge. Is yield or profit king though?
If the DD costs a quarter of the costs to establish while being better for the environment should that not be factored in too.
We're 100% arable now but some area should be in grass . Perhaps in years to come the folk that can make DD work will grow crops and this heavy stuff , many of us can't make a job of will end up back in grass?
is that the stuff round duns/berwick? i thought that was supposed to be the best of ground? There’s a strip of land east of the A1 that runs from Newcastle to the Scottish Borders that is bloody awful, catch it right and it’s probably some of the best wheat growing land in the country tho
