What it worth?

My father bought a classic Mercedes years ago. Had been parked for 10 years but was running when it was garaged. I cant remember how much exactly they were asking, struck a deal he'll give him X for it and if it runs he'll pay the difference. Took it to a MB specialist who worked round it making sure pistons weren't seized and whatever else. Fresh battery and fuel and she purred into life. Dad paid up. I think that's probably the fairest way to do it.

@Beames out of interest what’s it worth to you? What would you feel comfortable paying? Seeing as you’ve driven it and know the issues. You’ve got comparable advice above looking 4K from a shed ready for work or a £500 hedge find gamble

Jesus, some people make hard work of things!

The obvious line to take is 'Well Mr Landlord, its only worth £500 (or whatever figure the OP has in mind) to me, but I'm sure if you go to the bother of advertising it you'll get more', and leave it like that. Then its the landlords decision whether to let it go to his tenant for a cheap price, or do the work of dealing with all the usual online selling hassle to get a better price. No-one need fall out over it, and no-one gets evicted by disgruntled landlords..........

I`d find out a ballpark (in fact WORST case scenario!) figure for a new clutch, then find out if it will still run OK (suggest to seller you need to know this in order to make an offer), then I`d try to make an offer that`s fair to both (don`t upset the landlord!!). The offer can be made with the seller in full knowledge of the replacement clutch cost.

PS, I think it's worth ock all. But as it's the landlord's, give him £2k. Unless it's Glasshooose's landlord, in which case offer £20k. :ROFLMAO: Just kidding.

as it has spent most of it time sitting there you could be getting yourself a heap of expensive scrap or the price of a better tractor to put it right. tell your landlord it will need a lot of money to put it right and suggested offer him the £500 or walk away
