Ive just been two hours looking down my new (1972 but new to me) microscope. Its awesome what you can see, but making sense of "gastro-intestinal nematodes" is a dark art. Luckily Ive only seen 3 N Battus and a few Monesia (I think) i.e. nothing to worry about.

I don't know much about pigs or chickens, but traditional methods of husbandry would be geared towards preventing infection, and the worst problems are usually identified by a memorable name. e.g. Pulpy Kidney/Blackleg/Red Water Fever.

I have found that sitting and looking at my animals gives me an insight into how healthy they are. When they are expressing their natural behaviour, it is easy to spot one that is in some way unwell.

If these creatures harboured a threat to humans, we would not have successfully looked after them over the centuries. Understand what threats you have to your livestock by study, observe the health of your flock and enjoy being with them.
