What mig welder

I'm happy with my R-Tech 180A machine. It's an inverter, but I've not yet had it go over temp. It runs at 160A off a 13A socket, although I mostly use it off a 16A supply anyway. Runs down to 25A in MIG mode or 20A in stick mode.

The only thing I'm not keen on is the display shows the current being drawn rather than what you have set.

If just 13a plug then probably a140a will be the fuse max, a bigger box will work as long as it’s not wound up beyond that till electric upgrade, inverters will kick out more on 13a but possible lower duty cycle.
loads of information on here about most welders

Thanks got some unused 16a and 32a motors wired in plan is to put plugs onto the wires to increase welding capacity.

What is the advantage of going 3 phase over single phase with migs ? have a 16amp supply single phase but also have 3 phase as well. Also is an inverter one better?
It might just be me, or it might just be quality... but 3 phase MIG sets have always felt smoother to me.

Certainly, the capacitor smoothing has an easier time of it on 3 phase, as each phase overlaps so makes the power delivery to the transformer more continuous.

Inverters are better still, as they operate at such a high frequency the ripples are completely undetectable.

I've a 250a inverter MIG
Will run happily off a 7kva generator.
Will run at over 200a off a 13a plug.

Excellent for site work
what sort do you have? I have a mma inverter in the van which is great but I'm thinking of a mig thats handy for going in the van. or even a multi-process with tig aswell, was looking at this in local place but poor duty cycles. Currently bit of a ball ache getting mig and tig into van then getting on farm and power supply not enough to run them at any power, or dragging trailer round with welder generator.

Warrior 250, not ultra portable but easily lifted into a van by yourself, they have a superb duty cycle, a lot of line boring guys use them on a rotator.

They do a suitcase 180 mig too which I think does MMA as well
