What moisture to start harvesting at?

Indeed, but are the members happy to pay for the potential increase in charges from the investment required in higher capacity at peak periods? I've never been to a central store meeting where at least one member hasn't grumbled about charges! You can't win :D
I be the people moaning have no idea of their own handling charges especially those running forklifts miles around the countryside for one load here and one load there all winter.

No charges are ever popular.

We managed to modernise our intake, cleaning and drying facilities by selling more space to fund an expansion phase. This expansion then enabled us to cut costs and charges through economies of scale.

That doesn't help him get his crop lifted though! Perhaps adding a bit more to the cost of carting to Weald would be easier to dismiss than extra charges from upgrading intake capacity - haulage rates are "outside your control" ;)

It does if doubling weighbridge capacity and going from two small pits to three big pits means that we can turn vehicles round quicker and get more efficient use out of drivers' hours.

Faster weighing and tipping also allows us to have more vehicles on the road as there is less queuing and waiting at the store.

Haulage charges are included within our annual store charge.

What is the reason for the slow collection rate @moretimeforgolf ? Haulage availability or store intake capacity?
I had a dump store which could hold about 7 lorry loads. I think the problem was that everyone wanted the lorries at the same time and I don't shout as loud as some others plus I know certain other members got 7am slots and I only got afternoon loads - so I decided to invest in a new store but couldn't justify a drying floor, big fans and a burner.

(y) What moisture?

If this weather goes on much longer, Brisel, we shall be starting wheat at 30% and finishing at 35.

As in 1965; the classic year for the septoria nodorum yield effect not so far noted here this time.

That's just spoiled my day. 2008 all over again?

My memory of 2008 is a bit hazy but I remember it being a very wet harvest with poor milling quality and rampant inflation/agflation in input prices. Drier than 2007 but at least after the floods of June/July it dried up in late August for a good long time.

Where were you located at the time, Brisel?

!n 2008, after the awful June/July, we had over 6" of rain (including 29 consecutive wet days) in August, and over 4" (with 17 consecutive wet days) in September.

Boston, Lincolnshire. I do remember seeing the combine from my bedroom window parked for 3 weeks continuously in late August.

I cant see any cutting or land work here for at least ten days if not more. I appreciate it is not August yet, but overly wet July and Augusts do not suit heavy land farms at all.

That must've been the year we finished with flat oats on the 30th Sept.
Oats have stood up lovely this year until night before last, now the laid over patches are growing daily.:stop:

Started skyfall at 5 o'clock yesterday - down to 15%. Hope to a get a good run at it today with rain due again on Wednesday. We get the tail end of the frontal rain during the growing season and the same happens at harvest, only 4mm here last Saturday. Hope everyone gets going soon.
