What % of hay bales should we receive?

I have been approached by a neighbour who wants to makes some hay from some of our fields, and we will receive some bales as payment what rough percentage would be reasonable for use to get? As they will be doing all of the work making it.

Multiply the acreage by £100 and divide by £5 and that gives you your share of the spoils. 5 acre field, your share = 100 bales, 20 acre field, your share = 400 bales.

Location is the key. Mowing grass might vary from £25 acre to £100 acre depending on location.

At £4 / bale that could be 6 to 25 bales an acre

Why would someone want to do the job and then give half away !?

god i'm thick....but indulge me

lets say it's a ten acre field and 8 x 4ft round hay bales/ac....value £40/bale

so 25% of 80 is 20 bales @ £40 is £800 divided by 10 is £80/ac.......what does your formula pay?

Do you really get £40 for a 4’ round bale? Crikey, I’m slipping up big time.:(

going rate around here was £35 last year....horse mart underpinning....i suppose in wetter wales (better grass growth) and for sheep/cattle it might be less?

last year was 1 in 10 year for grass growing here......old crop on market for £25 at moment as leftover

another way of looking at it....at £35.bale it took 8 bales to buy a tonne of nitrogen....feck knows what a tonne of nitrogen is but if it's £640 then those bales are £80

I’m jealous. I don’t think I’ve ever got above £20 for a 4’ round bale of (good, clean) hay here. If I ask more the look tells me they think I’m wearing a Dick Turpin mask.
That’s why I don’t bother much.
