Only thing I've found with a pickup is it bounces on the back end with a trailer ,,never had it with my old landcruiser ,,if it's because pickups are are so light on the back end I dont know .

Our vet was in yesterday pding some cows and he drives a Toyota now after years with a 2l amarok, he said the Toyota does the job and was half the price to swap compared to the Amarok but it isn’t a patch on the Amarok in every area. sounded like he was regretting the move tbh.

For me it’s got to be a Nissan Navarra Np 300 . Good deals at the moment as the new upgrade model is coming shortly .
which is going have carrying capacity 1400 kg I think? And been refined a little bit more.

We've a fleet of 3 single cab and 1 king/half cab Toyota's averaging 12-15,000 miles per year. really cant fault them! They're replaced every 3 years so this lot is only on between 6-8,000 miles but no trouble at all. Last lot went away with 33-45,000 on them and again, not a spanner put to them (although they would have been in warranty anyway for 5 year). Most of their life is spent on roads and tracks, some towing up-to 3.5t which they were fine with (I'll caveat that with we are in a fairly flat part of the world). Dogs are in and out of the front in all weathers with no damage to any of the surfaces bar a bit of mud. I can do a 2-3hr drive and get out not feeling stiff or tired and still hear, coming from older L200's this was amazing! I really cant fault it, apart from being a bit of a pig in carparks. Only ever sat in the passenger seat of Amarock/Navara etc and yes they're nice but they felt too good to be a work truck. Didn't think they'd stay nice for very long if I was getting in and out with wet muddy waterproofs on or have the dogs jump in during the winter....I'd rather save the money and buy a nice second-hand estate if I had to do a journey that a car would be more suited too.

Thanks all,

Generally, you are echoing what I've heard, that the Hilux is at the top of the pile for the right sort of money...

However, I've been offered a 2018 Mitsibushi L200, right milage, tidy, higher spec than what i would have wanted, but seems to be priced right.

Any opinions, good and bad on L200's?

I really rate the L200. I’d say they are the best off-road and on Icy roads. If you are over 6ft you will find seat doesn’t go low enough and you have to duck slightly while driving .

What spec of l200 if it has the super select gearbox you can run 4wd all the time which is safer when towing and wet roads etc

I know nobody seems to rate them but I love my DMax 2.5 litre. I need to change it with 80 k on clock but am put off by the 1.9 engine although they all seem to be moving this way.

I’m the same but dropping from 400nm of torque to 350 mm is a fair drop for a vehicle that does an awful lot of towing here. Maybe the new model next year will be tuned up a bit higher.

That’s the conclusion I came to. Not massively keen Ona Navara but will probably end up with one.

Doubt ford will sell of thier ranger design? If they do theyl introduce the f150 over here which will trump all other brands
sadly, we will never see the f150 over here. Its simply not needed, wanted or indeed viable to sell.
The Ford/VW is like alot of models from the past such as VW Sharan etc..... Each and every model gets better than the last one. I look forward to seeing it.

I know, I know! Almost as strongly debated as Forager's v's Wagons...

Im thinking of a new pick up, but as I don't have much experience with them, I thought I'd ask the collective! :)

Shopping List
I cant justify a proper double cab really, but one of those extra cab versions would suit, I never take more than a single passanger, but it's good to know I can if push came to shove, the back seats are handy to chuck a coat, flask, etc on to as well
4WD
Towing Capability, 3T+
Diesel
Manual
Not too fussed by toys, alloy wheels etc, it is a workhorse, not a show pony
Good Load Area
Load Area Canopy, Lockable ideally, easily removable ideally.
Reasonable MPG
Reliability

What to go for, what to avoid...?

Thank you all!

I have a Titan spec. 2016 manual and I'm very pleased with it.
Local slow speeds engine around the 1500 rev range and it'll return 40 mpg.
At 70+ 35 might.

Had my Series 5 l200 manual warrior for 2 years now and very happy. When I was shopping around at different brands, I felt it was best overall for affordable work vehicle with all the trimmings. Make sure you buy one with a reversing camera. Good on fuel and good value.
