I'm not sure THAT'S a good idea, unless you've persuaded Lyn Jones to buy 'em at a premium....All the cows are calving to Angus this year and will be next year too.
(It's hard to pick a good Angus bull).

Merthyr looking for aa aax paying premium and me jones puts a lot of cattle in thereToo late now for this year (obviously), but I will do some research before committing to it for next year. We have 3 decent Angus bulls. The Blue is a bit tired.

If its the same Lynn jones he will be finishing as many cattle if not more than mostBut the store buyer does not pass the premium on does he?
Brecon store market report last month said £40 head premium on organic stores, I have never seen much of a premium there mind.
Fat premium is 70p + or £245 on a 350kg animal

I think you would have to be strong enough to make him pass on the premium rather than the buyer give it to youI know who you mean but does he pass the premium on? Or as business sense suggests just makes him a stronger buyer?

Well done thick farmer.. If you are buying anything else get Herefords 4.56 per kg deadweight .. Supermarkets want the Herefords and Angus breeds ... My friend buys for waitrose and he said the money will be in those 2 breeds of cattle as the meat is what the consumers want
I am not saying he is not a fair buyer what I am trying to say is know your market for your product whatever it be and sell it for the best you canLyn Jones is a good buyer and an easy man to do business with; he does seem to be interested in Angus nowadays (never used to be) and will happily turn up on your yard to show you what he wants and will try his best to make a deal with you if you have named-sire cattle.
So does that mean produce nicely finished Limousins? Or chase the Angus premium?I am not saying he is not a fair buyer what I am trying to say is know your market for your product whatever it be and sell it for the best you can
I have done the dovecote aa hex job not over pleased with it price per kg was good and a fair way in front of others a while back but what I found was transport costs to dear could not get enough weight into cattle without going to fat and demand was not there when we needed to out cattle so then started growing cattle and supplying a finisher in the east and that was a good job but he give upSo does that mean produce nicely finished Limousins? Or chase the Angus premium?
Lyn Jones will buy either, at the prevailing price.
So what would you suggest is the best thing to do? if you're not hedging your bets like Julie.
All I did was to agree that in my opinion the OP did not get what they where worth and used the market report to back that up. I agree that it is difficult to value stock unseen, that is why mine are in the market next week. The people around the ring will decide for me!
Very true,i have been reading sedgemoor reports lately,my neighbour has been going up buying stirks. He has been buying for much less than the reports say you can.Makes me laugh reading about how the fat cattle buyers are saying how much more expensive cattle bought there are working out than buying direct from farmers(they are bound to say that)then you look at the weights and what the total per animal is,tells a different story!Only way to see what the trade is actually like is to be at the market, these days it seems a complete and utter waste of time reading market reports as quite often how they make out the trade was and how it ACTUALLY WAS is two different things!! only reason i read the market reports is for the average's as that will tell you a lot more than a few headline grabbing top prices, market reports only tell you what the top 10% of animals are making but its the other 90% which will tell you what the trade was actually like..
As for the op, as long as he/she is happy with the price they got is all that matters..
As for putting your cows to AAX bulls, fine if you are selling them as very strong stores ( aka 18+ months old ) but wouldnt do it if i was selling stirks thats for sure, AAX regularly make £75/£100 less than a identical cont x in the stirk ring, reason being is people are worried they wont get the size when they are older.
