If you don’t have any experience with cows I wouldn’t jump in feet first with them, they are big animals and you need infrastructure to farm them, shed for winter, forklift for feeding, a crush and a race for TB testing/vet visits and boulasing.

You don’t need all these to farm!

Think there is a bright future for small scale serving local markets. Good luck 👍
Can you plant trees?

That’s all future farmers will need to do

So we are told [emoji85]
We are looking to do this too on parts of the land.

I agree it's a necessity for the planet generally, but I do not agree that farmers should bear the brunt of this respobsibility.

Councils and large scale landowners don't have the same onus upon them and most of them don't even plant wildflower meadows never mind trees.

I live in Yorkshire near a number of massive parks. Bet they wont get planted up.

I'll get off my soapbox now!

Yeah, I aren't completely without knowledge about cows (my family) and we have the infrastructure to set to it and house them. Hya to feed them etc.

Whats the deal with the TB and boulasing, surely we just book in with a vet?

Driving ones are a good point actually, so I will look at those.

Not gonna be handling a chainsaw, first aid is another good shout though thank you.

Only did my c+e as I’ve an articulated horse box as we show heavy horses. Easiest way to get them to the shows.

b+e is essential, and first aid is too, scary how many accidents happen and people are clueless. But once you do a course your legally required to interviene if required to do so. I learnt that within the last ten mins of my course which was nice to find out👍

I did post a thread last week,
Bizarre threads started,
From new members !

Sorry, I don't know what you mean?

I aren't allowed to ask because you did a post last week?

I didn't see your thread and I have had a good response from members on this one. Why is that bizarre? Or why does it matter if i'm new?

Is this some weird cult i've joined?

All depends what sort of farming you are going into. Practically speaking local farm colleges usually do short courses, evening classes etc (used to, do they still offer them?)

I’m too long away from learning much now, more like forgetting most of it!
Never too old for learning, but I can relate to the forgetting!
