I have some short brick walls in a fold yard, approx 5' high which I am going to knock out and replace with concrete panels. What size angle iron do I need to bolt on to support the panels?
Presumably there will be no pressure on the panels?
I used 125x60mm c section to hold 8x4 panels in my new shed last year. The pillars are 5' high. This meant I could bolt inch angle among the top to increase the height, and stop the channels spreading at the top.
For a continuous wall, I'd use h beam.
The most important thing is to get the foundation strong enough to hold the pillars upright! Either Concrete in well, or as I did, weld foot square plates to the bottom, and bolt them down onto studs held in with resin.
I made the holes in the plates oversize so that the hammer bit fitted through. I placed the upright in the correct position, drilled the concrete, set the studs in the test tube of resin, left then for half an hour, then put on nuts with penny washers. This meant the pillars weren't moved after being positioned.
Sorry Dr Dunc i should have said the existing uprights are ok and can bolt/weld the angle iron to these. Also there is only cattle on one side and the muck dosent get much more than 18'' deep, though there can be quite s bit of cattle pressure on them at times.
